You upgrade the Battery in Loftia at the Project Station, one tier at a time, and Battery Lv.2 is the one you can make right away: your Battery, 10 Scrap Wire and 2 Mushroom Leather. The Lv.3 and Lv.4 recipes are research rewards from the Overgrowth Research Station in the Hanging Gardens, per the Steam Next Fest demo’s game data.
Each upgrade raises how many energy charges you carry, and crafting runs on energy, so a bigger battery means longer crafting sessions between recharges. Below are all four tiers, every recipe, the research behind the later ones and how to recharge. Qloud Games’ Early Access opened on November 3, and the demo’s recipes can change in that build, so we say which facts come from the data.
Every Battery Tier in Loftia
Each Battery’s in-game description gives its capacity:
| Battery | Holds | Station | Recipe | How you unlock it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Battery | 5 charges | None | Quest reward | Given by Pebble during A Fresh Start |
| Battery Lv.2 | 10 charges | Project Station Lv.1 | Battery, 10 Scrap Wire, 2 Mushroom Leather | No research needed |
| Battery Lv.3 | 20 charges | Project Station Lv.2 | Battery Lv.2, 3 Copper Bars, 2 Lignin | Elemental Earth research bundle |
| Battery Lv.4 | 30 charges | Project Station Lv.3 | Battery Lv.3, 10 Power Cable, 5 Vines | Sightless Seekers research bundle |
Each upgrade uses up the previous Battery. In the demo data, crafting the upgrades costs 3, 10 and 15 energy in turn.
What the Battery Does
The Battery stores energy charges, and every Battery is “rechargeable in any energy station,” per its description. That energy powers crafting: Qloud’s Steam page talks about crafting “your own tools using renewable energy generated from the sun, wind and rain,” and every recipe in the demo data carries an energy cost. A basic Hammer costs 2, while bigger tools cost far more.
With the starting Battery’s 5 charges, you run dry after a few crafts. That is the main reason to upgrade early.
How to Make Battery Lv.2
This is the only upgrade you can craft in Loftia City, and the demo already had it.
- Collect 10 Scrap Wire. Wire Piles give Scrap Wire, and you pick them up by hand, no tool needed.
- Collect 10 Portobello Mushrooms. Cut them from Portobello spots with the Pruners.
- Refine 2 Mushroom Leather. Each takes 5 Portobello Mushrooms at a Refining Station Lv.1.
- Craft Battery Lv.2 at a Project Station from your Battery, the Scrap Wire and the Mushroom Leather.
How to Unlock and Make Battery Lv.3
Battery Lv.3 needs research. In the demo data, its recipe is the reward for the Elemental Earth bundle at the Overgrowth Research Station, which researches “eco-friendly energy storing methods.” Research Stations are an Early Access feature, per Qloud’s Early Access page, and these sit in the Hanging Gardens.
Elemental Earth asks for 3 each of Resin, Salt, Bauxite Ore, Copper Scraps and Bioluminescent Ivy. Salt and Bauxite Ore come from Mineral Nodes and Resin from Pine Trees, and both need a Hammer Lv.2 in the data, so this is a mid-game unlock.
Then craft it at a Project Station Lv.2 from Battery Lv.2, 3 Copper Bars (5 Copper Scraps each) and 2 Lignin (5 Bioluminescent Ivy each), both refined at a Refining Station Lv.2. Bioluminescent Ivy needs Pruners Lv.2.
One tip: the craft costs 10 energy, exactly what a full Battery Lv.2 holds, so charge it all the way first.
How to Unlock and Make Battery Lv.4
The last tier comes from the Sightless Seekers bundle on the Overgrowth Research Station’s second page. It is a fishing bundle: 5 each of Haditha Cavefish, Blind Cave Eel, Texas Blind Salamander and Blind Cave Brotula, all cave species, so you will need the Collector Rod.
Craft it at a Project Station Lv.3 from Battery Lv.3, 10 Power Cable and 5 Vines, for 15 energy. Both materials come from Gridfall in the demo data: Vines from Overgrown Vines and Power Cable as a rarer drop from Piles of Cables, which need Pruners Lv.3. Our guide to finding Vines has the spots and the Pruners recipes.
How to Recharge Your Battery
Any energy station recharges any Battery. Home islands have solar panels, and Qloud’s first demo patch made solar panels “generate more energy in rain and at night, particularly when both are happening.”
Early Access adds more ways to generate it. Qloud’s end-of-demo announcement lists “more efficient sources of renewable energy to charge your batteries, such as wind, hydro, biofuel and kinetic.” The demo data includes small and medium solar panels, wind turbines, hydro stations and biofuel stations, several with a Lv.2 version.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you get the first Battery in Loftia? Pebble gives it to you during A Fresh Start, Loftia’s opening quest, the same quest that sets up your Project Station and first Garden Bed.
How many charges does each Battery hold? 5 for the Battery, 10 for Lv.2, 20 for Lv.3 and 30 for Lv.4, per their in-game descriptions.
Why can’t I craft Battery Lv.3? You need the recipe from the Elemental Earth research bundle and a Project Station Lv.2. Research Stations are in the Hanging Gardens, past the opening Loftia City story.
Does the Hammer use the Battery? The Hammer Lv.3’s description says it “fits a battery for automated action.” Qloud has not said more about how that works.
Did my demo Battery carry over? Qloud says items and progress from the Next Fest demo carried into Early Access if you linked your Loftia account. Our release time guide has the details, and our guide to planting seeds covers the farming tools you will spend that energy on.
