Gunboat God, the side-scrolling shoot ’em up that came out on PC in April, launches on Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android on November 17, 2026, publisher Fireshine Games announced on November 4. The Switch version costs $12.99, and the mobile version lets you play the whole first biome free before you buy.
The Details
Gunboat God is the first solo game from Melbourne developer Thomas Janson, who works as Janson RAD and previously made Wave Wave and Death Hall. You pilot a heavily armed gunboat back toward “the Citadel in the sky,” shooting and dodging through boatloads of enemies, with a crocodile as your mechanic.
Fireshine’s announcement lists what all three new versions include:
- Over 200 levels of side-scrolling shooting.
- More than 20 mission types.
- One upgradable gunboat to master, with weapons, skills and abilities to improve along the way.
On mobile, Fireshine describes the release as “try before you buy”: the first biome is free and has no ads. Android players can pre-register on Google Play, and iPhone and iPad players can pre-order on the App Store.
What This Means for Players
The Switch price matches the PC version, which sells for $12.99 on Steam and has a free demo there. So nothing is lost by waiting for the handheld version if that is where you would rather play it, and anyone curious on PC can try the demo today before deciding which platform to buy on. The mobile trial is the more generous offer: a full biome, with no ads, before any payment.
Fireshine also publishes REKA, which left Early Access on Steam in late October, and Denshattack!, its flying-train platformer, made our best Switch 2 games of 2026 list. If you are after more shoot ’em ups, Sturmjäger, a sci-fi one with couch co-op, is also coming to Switch.
Fireshine’s announcement names Nintendo Switch only and does not mention a Switch 2 edition.
