505 Games and developer ArtPlay released a new gameplay trailer for Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement on September 17, 2026, shown during the Xbox showcase at Tokyo Game Show. The sequel to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is again directed by Koji Igarashi, and the footage is the clearest look yet at how much bigger this one is.
The Details
The headline claim is scale: ArtPlay says this is the largest map in the Bloodstained universe so far. Running through it is a full cycle of dawn, day, dusk, and night, which is intended to change both how the world looks and how you interact with it. In a genre built on backtracking through the same corridors with new abilities, a time cycle that alters those corridors is a meaningful structural change rather than a cosmetic one.
Combat is built around what ArtPlay calls the Epiphany Combat System, where moves, attacks, and abilities are discovered during battle instead of unlocked from a menu. The trailer also confirms you play as both Leo and Alex simultaneously, using the pair to break through traps and fight enemies rather than switching between two separate campaigns.
The trailer showed new characters, environments, and enemies, and the game is targeted for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. No Nintendo platform has been announced, which is a notable omission given that Ritual of the Night eventually reached Switch.
What This Means for Players
This is the closest thing the genre has to a direct descendant of Symphony of the Night, because Igarashi directed that game too and has spent the years since rebuilding its ideas without the Castlevania name attached. If you have been waiting for the follow-up to Ritual of the Night, the dual-protagonist structure is the part worth watching: played well, it doubles the moveset you carry into every room.
