IllFonic published a “What’s Coming Next” update for Halloween: The Game on September 17, 2026, confirming that “well over 1,000,000 players” have entered Haddonfield in the roughly two weeks since the game’s Early Access launch on September 4. The studio’s post spends most of its length on stability, and it is unusually specific about which crashes it is chasing.
The Details
Three crash scenarios are named outright. The first happens when the Loomis reinforcement enters a match, which IllFonic describes as a performance hit occurring across multiple platforms. The second hits at the end of single-player chapters, most often on the after-action report screen at the end of the Prologue and Chapter 3. The third is platform-specific: the studio says it has seen increased crash reports from Xbox Series X and S players “in various gameplay scenarios” and is still investigating.
Beyond those, IllFonic acknowledges broader performance problems tied to particular PC hardware configurations, and says it is working with platform partners to gather the crash reports needed to narrow them down. Players hitting any of this are asked to email the studio’s help desk with their username, platform, device specifications, and the match details leading up to the problem.
The million-player figure is worth putting in context. Reviews for Halloween: The Game were harsh at launch, and the game has sold and retained an audience anyway, which is the pattern asymmetric horror tends to follow when the licensed villain is the draw.
What This Means for Players
If you have been crashing at the end of the Prologue or Chapter 3, that is a known issue and not something on your end, so there is no point reinstalling. The same goes for the Loomis spawn, which is now the single most reproducible crash in the game.
