To become a noble in The Sims 4, join the Noble career from the Royalty and Legacy Expansion Pack: ask a high-ranking Noble to Request Knighthood, read The Duchess Diaries: A History of Nobility from a bookcase and choose Research Noble Legacy, or buy the Majestic Throne or Ornate Throne in Build Mode and choose Join Noble Career. There is also a shortcut: a Sim who marries a Noble, or is the child of one, inherits the title without joining the career at all.
Nobility is the heart of the Royalty and Legacy Expansion Pack, released February 12, 2026 on PC, Mac, PlayStation and Xbox. It plays very differently from every other job in the game, so below we cover how promotions actually work, the Favor meter, all ten titles, and how to take the throne. Everything is verified against EA’s official Noble career guide.
How the Noble Career Works
The Noble career is an active career with no workplace and no fixed hours. Your Sim never travels to an office; instead they complete daily Noble Duties wherever they are, and in EA’s words a Noble Sim is “never truly off-duty”. Check the day’s duties in the Career panel (the briefcase icon in the bottom-right of Live Mode).
Typical duties include:
- Discuss Noble Life: select another Sim, then Friendly, Small Talk, Discuss Noble Life.
- Ask for Noble Advice: recruit a Noble Advisor, then use Friendly, Ask for Noble Advice.
- Hold Court: click the throne to start a Courtly Event where you listen to visitor concerns and give speeches.
- Hold Press Conference: click a podium (every Ondarion neighborhood has one, or buy one) to address the kingdom and answer scandals.
- Noble Ventures: one outing per day, launched from the throne or the phone’s Business app, such as Visit Kingdom Heritage Sites or Visit and Present at Local School.
A throne is the career’s control panel, so buying one early is worth it even if your Sim joined by knighthood.
How to Get Promoted (It Is Not Automatic)
Here is the part that confuses most players. When your Sim has done their duties, has high enough performance and meets the skill requirement, they are not promoted on the next workday. You have to click the throne and choose Noble Promotion, then Claim Noble Promotion. If it is greyed out, your Sim is not eligible yet. From level 3 you can pick a Coronation Speech or a Coronation Ceremony as the way to receive the promotion.
If you would rather promotions happened on their own, EA added a toggle: open Options (the three dots in the top-right), then Game Options, Pack Settings, and tick Enable Noble Career Auto Promotion.
Rank also depends on wealth and Favor. Favor has three states, shown on a meter in the Career panel:
- Neutral: where new nobles start.
- Commoner: earned by lowering taxes, donating to the Kingdom Fund, and ventures like Cut Ribbon at Local Business Opening or Give Interview for Local Newspaper.
- Royal: earned by raising taxes and ventures like Visit Kingdom Heritage Sites and Attend Political Conference for Nobles.
All Ten Noble Titles
Each career level carries a title, and EA lets you choose masculine, feminine or neutral versions (click the edit icon on the career name in the Career panel). The masculine titles, in order:
- Knight
- Baronet
- Baron
- Viscount (unlocks Bestow Knighthood)
- Count (unlocks Enact Noble Decree)
- Margrave
- Marquess (unlocks Set Kingdom Taxes)
- Duke
- Grand Duke
- King, Queen or Monarch (unlocks Grant Noble Title)
Promotions mainly need Charisma, climbing to level 10 for the last step up from Grand Duke, and several steps also need the pack’s new Swordsmanship skill (levels 3, 4 and 5 along the way). Start both early; our guide on maxing skills fast applies directly, and the skill cheats work on both.
How to Take the Throne
Only one Sim can rule a kingdom. If someone already holds level 10 when your Sim reaches level 9, your Sim gains a Noble Rival and must remove the Monarch. EA lists five ways: Encourage Sim to Abdicate, Duel for Noble Rivalry, Pressure to Abdicate, Seduce to Abdicate and Extort to Abdicate. The throne also opens up if the Monarch dies or is demoted. Extortion runs on secrets, which ties into the pack’s scandal system, and a noble title is a strong base for founding a Dynasty.

EA publishes this one officially. Open the cheat console (Ctrl + Shift + C on PC and Mac, R1 + R2 + L1 + L2 on PlayStation, RB + RT + LB + LT on Xbox), type testingcheats true, press Enter, then type careers.promote noble. Frequently Asked Questions
Can my Sim become a noble without the career? Yes. Marrying a Noble, or being the child of one, passes on the title without joining the Noble career. The marriage guide covers the proposal.
Why can’t I claim my Noble promotion? The option greys out until duties, performance and the skill requirement are all met. Check the Career panel for the missing piece, usually Charisma or Swordsmanship.
Does the Noble career have work hours? No. There are no fixed hours and no workplace; performance comes from completing each day’s Noble Duties.
Can I rename the noble titles? Yes. Click the edit icon next to the career level name in the Career panel.
