If your Sim is stuck, frozen, or behaving glitchy in The Sims 2, don’t panic! Resetting them can usually fix the issue without losing your progress. This guide will show you exactly how to reset a Sim using safe, in-game tools and cheats.
What Happens When You Reset a Sim?
Resetting a Sim will:
- Immediately stop their current action
- Free them from being stuck in furniture, glitches, or loops
- Reposition them safely back on the lot
It won’t delete your Sim or erase their relationships, job, or skills, so it’s a safe fix for minor bugs and frozen animations.
Method 1: Use the “Force Error” Option (Testing Cheats Enabled)
This method is best for advanced players or those familiar with cheat commands.
- Open the Cheat Console
PressCtrl + Shift + Cto bring up the cheat box. - Enable Testing Cheats
Type: nginxCopyEditboolProp testingCheatsEnabled true - Shift + Click on the Sim
While holdingShift, click on the stuck Sim. A debug menu will appear. - Choose “Force Error”
This will bring up a small dialog box. - Click “Reset”
Your Sim will reset and usually appear standing safely nearby.
When you’re done, you can turn off testing cheats by entering:
nginxCopyEditboolProp testingCheatsEnabled false
Method 2: Use the Batbox (Sim Modder)
If you’ve downloaded Lot Debugger (also known as the “Batbox”) from ModTheSims, you can reset Sims even more easily:
- Place the Batbox on your lot
- Click it and choose Fix > Stuck Sims
- Or go to More > Reset Sim
This is a must-have mod for long-term Sims 2 players who want to fix game bugs quickly and safely.
Method 3: Move Out / Move In Household
If the issue persists and you don’t use cheats or mods:
- Use the neighborhood screen to evict the household.
- Re-place them into the same or a new lot.
- This often resets all Sims, furniture, and routing issues.
It’s more extreme, but effective for deeply glitched lots.
Pro Tip: Save Before Resetting
Always save your game before using cheats or mods, just in case something unexpected happens.
