Sony will not exhibit at CES in Las Vegas in January 2027, and neither will any of its affiliates, a Sony spokesperson confirmed to Bloomberg on September 28, 2026, following a report earlier the same day by Nikkei. It ends a presence that dates back to the first CES in 1967.
What Sony Said
“We continuously and strategically evaluate our approach to events and communications based on the needs and priorities of our diverse business,” Sony said in a statement. The company added that its focus continues to evolve toward entertainment, intellectual property and technology that supports creators.
The exit has been coming. Nikkei reported that Sony Group exhibited every year from 1967 through 2025, then skipped its own booth in January 2026, when Sony Honda Mobility, its joint venture with Honda, exhibited the Afeela electric car instead. Bloomberg notes that the Honda venture has since been scrapped.
What CES Meant for PlayStation
CES was never PlayStation’s main stage, but it has carried real PlayStation news. At CES 2023, Sony announced Project Leonardo, the customizable accessibility controller kit for PS5 that became the Access controller. Sony’s CES press conferences also used to be streamed on the PlayStation Blog.
These days PlayStation reveals its own news on its own schedule, through State of Play broadcasts and the PlayStation Blog. Sony’s statement does not single out PlayStation or mention any other event.
What This Means for Players
In practice, very little changes for PS5 owners. Hardware and game announcements that matter to players already come through PlayStation’s own channels, like the recent Lisa limited edition DualSense, which PlayStation announced on its blog rather than at a trade show.
