Strange Scaffold announced Something is Wrong with the Library on September 28, 2026, a haunted “narrative organizing simulator” coming to PC in Q4 2026. The studio revealed it with a teaser trailer and a Steam page, which lists it for Windows.
The Details
The setup, per the Steam page, is darker than a cozy sorting game usually gets. Alex Dieter, “billionaire king of the Fortune 500”, has revitalized the small mountain town of Sweet Elm with fiber internet and new landscaping, and has also been killing homeless people and stuffing them in the walls of the local library. Now the Alex Dieter Public Library and Center for Reflection is haunted, its shelves thrown into disarray. With the help of its former administrator, Phillip Shed, you clean and organize the building over “one tense night”, uncovering the town’s complicity as you go.
The features Strange Scaffold lists:
- A fully voiced story with “an entire library of eerie manifestations to unlock”.
- A modern library stocked with “thousands of real book titles”.
- A Modular Chaos System, so every playthrough hands you a different set of books to shelve.
- Sorting by Dewey Decimal classification, author and title.
Steam credits Strange Scaffold as the developer, and Strange Scaffold and Frosty Pop as publishers. No price has been announced.
What This Means for Players
Strange Scaffold, the studio behind I Am Your Beast and Clickolding, is taking the tidy-up sim somewhere unusually dark. The Modular Chaos System is the part to watch: if the book set really changes every run, the game is built to be replayed rather than finished once.
It is also a small, strange horror game arriving in the busiest horror season of the year. If you want something bigger to play first, our best horror games of 2026 so far is the place to start, Silent Hill Townfall is this fall’s big psychological horror release, and our upcoming game releases calendar tracks everything else due before the year ends.
When and Where
Something is Wrong with the Library is listed for Q4 2026 on Steam, for Windows PC. No consoles, price or exact date have been announced. You can wishlist it on Steam now.
