Yes, your Sim can romance the Grim Reaper in The Sims 4, and most of it works in the base game: Grim accepts friendly and flirty socials like any other Sim, and a free update restored WooHoo with him. Trying for a baby with Grim is the part that needs the Life and Death expansion pack, and a proposal is not part of normal play at all.

What the Base Game and Life and Death Each Allow
Grim’s romance options are split across the base game and one expansion.
- Base game: your Sim can chat with and flirt with Grim when he shows up for a reaping. EA’s own death guide lists seducing Grim as one way to improve the odds before pleading for a dying Sim’s life. WooHoo came back in the October 22, 2024 base game update, whose official patch notes say plainly that “Sims can WooHoo with the Grim Reaper again.”
- Life and Death expansion: adds Try for Baby with Grim, two easier ways to find him, and (if you also own Growing Together) the “WooHoo’d with Grim!” milestone.
- Neither: a Propose or marriage interaction. Player guides consistently report that none appears with Grim in normal play.
How to Find the Grim Reaper
In the base game, EA’s WooHoo guide is blunt that finding Grim is the hard part: your Sim has to be nearby at the moment another Sim dies and wait for him to arrive for the reaping. The community wiki adds that he sometimes lingers on the lot after the reaping, which is the window where other Sims can socialize with him. With Life and Death installed, you have two better options, both confirmed by EA:
- Visit Mourningvale. Travel to the Mourningvale neighborhood in the world of Ravenwood for a chance to spot Grim out reaping.
- Join the Reaper career. It is an active career where Grim is your boss. It runs ten ranks, from Grimtern up to Reaper, and puts your Sim in regular contact with him.
How to Romance Grim, Step by Step
Grim follows the same romance rules as any Sim. The menu paths below come from EA’s WooHoo guide.
- Check your Sim’s age. WooHoo is for young adults and older, per EA. Teens cannot WooHoo with anyone.
- Start friendly. Build some friendship first. EA warns that asking a Sim about their romantic interests too early can offend them.
- Ask about his interests. Select Grim and choose More Choices > Relationship > Ask about Romantic Interests, then Ask about WooHoo Interests. Grim has his own preferences, and players on EA’s forums have reported him refusing romance in some saves. The community wiki notes his traits are randomized.
- Flirt, then kiss. Repeat flirty socials to fill the romance bar. Your Sims must share a First Kiss before WooHoo becomes available.
- WooHoo. Select Grim and choose More Choices > Romance > Physical Intimacy > WooHoo.

Having a Baby With Grim (Life and Death)
EA’s pregnancy guide confirms that with Life and Death installed, the Try for Baby interaction is available with the Grim Reaper. Use More Choices > Romance > Physical Intimacy > Try for a Baby. A few details from that guide are worth knowing:
- Anyone can conceive. Young adult or adult Sims can get pregnant after WooHoo with Grim, regardless of the pregnancy settings chosen in Create a Sim.
- The Grimborn trait. The baby is born with the Grimborn reward trait, a scythe birthmark behind the left ear, and a longer life.
- The bloodline carries on. That child’s own children get the Grim Descendant trait, without the birthmark or the longer life span.
- A bonus milestone. Owners of Growing Together also get the “Had a Descendant of Grim!” milestone.

Marrying Grim or Moving Him In
There is no Propose option with Grim in normal play, according to player guides. The route they describe runs through cheats: per the community wiki, turn on testingcheats, shift-click Grim before he leaves the lot, and choose Add to Family. As a household member, only his Social and Fun needs decay, and if another Sim dies, the game spawns an additional Grim to do the reaping. Some player guides say marriage becomes possible once he lives with you, but EA has not documented that, so treat it as unconfirmed and back up your save first.
The controls differ by platform, per EA’s official cheats FAQ:
- PC and Mac: press Ctrl + Shift + C, type testingcheats true, then shift-click Grim.
- PlayStation: press L1 + L2 + R1 + R2 together to open the cheat box. The shift-click equivalent is holding Circle and pressing X.
- Xbox: press LB + LT + RB + RT together. The shift-click equivalent is holding B and pressing A.
