Sturmjäger, a horizontal sci-fi shoot ’em up from German studio Byteproduct, launches on January 14, 2027, the developer announced on September 29, 2026, with an announcement trailer on PlayStation’s channel. Its Steam page lists the same date.
The Details
Byteproduct pitches it as arcade action for players who want to “skip the cinematic fluff”. Its rule for the genre is simple: “If it moves, shoot it. If it doesn’t move… shoot it anyway, just to be safe.” From the store page:
- Ten stages, each with its own visual theme, soundtrack and a screen-filling boss at the end.
- Solo or local co-op, so two players can share a couch.
- Three modes: Arcade (one continuous run), Mission (master individual stages) and Score Attack.
- Three difficulty levels and online leaderboards.
- A scoring system built on kill chains, risky close-range kills, quick kills and no-death runs.
The PlayStation trailer confirms the PS5 version for January 14, 2027, and the Steam page lists Windows PC. Byteproduct’s announcement, distributed through Games Press, also lists Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch, with the Switch version limited to the Americas and Europe, and a price of $19.99.
What This Means for Players
Sturmjäger is squarely aimed at shmup fans: no story to sit through, a scoring system that rewards risk, and a Score Attack mode built for leaderboards. The local co-op makes it one of the few new shoot ’em ups you can play with a second person on the same screen.
It is also a debut: Byteproduct’s announcement describes it as a two-person studio releasing its first game under that name. Wishlisting is the easiest way to hear if anything changes before January.
