Dynasty Warriors 3 Remastered: Every Item and How to Get It

Sun Shangxiang swings her chakram through Yellow Turban soldiers in Dynasty Warriors 3 Complete Edition Remastered

Dynasty Warriors 3 Remastered has two kinds of items: blue stat items, which drop at random after battles and raise one stat by a variable amount, and red unique items, which each come from one specific event on one specific stage. The rare red items, like the Red Hare Saddle from Lu Bu at Hulao Gate or The Way of Musou from Xiahou Dun in Guan Yu’s Escape, are the ones worth hunting.

DYNASTY WARRIORS 3: Complete Edition Remastered rebuilds the 2001 original and its Xtreme Legends expansion, and Koei Tecmo has not published a full item list. The lists below come from the original game’s documentation; Steam forum players report the same items, events and farming spots in the remaster, and the in-game Database carries the instructions for each item. We note where the remaster is confirmed to differ.

How Items Work

Each officer equips items before battle (Koei Tecmo: “Items and weapons can be changed when preparing for battle”). Growth items, equipment and weapons collected in Free Mode carry over to every other mode, per Koei Tecmo, so you can farm in Free Mode and use the results in Musou Mode.

Blue item strength is random within a range, and harder difficulties and later stages drop better versions. Remaster players report “limit broken” items above the original caps, such as a +75 Peacock Urn and +50 Tortoise Amulet, and the reported mechanism is that long combos during a stage raise the quality of what drops afterward.

Blue Stat Items

Item Effect Original cap
Peacock Urn Raises maximum Life +60
Dragon Amulet Raises maximum Musou +60
Tiger Amulet Raises Attack +20
Tortoise Amulet Raises Defense +40
Huang’s Bow Raises bow damage +40
Shell Armor Raises defense against arrows +40
Horned Helm Raises mounted attack +40
Cavalry Armor Raises mounted defense +40
Speed Scroll Raises running speed +16
Wing Boots Raises jump height +16
Seven Star Orb Raises Luck +20
Wind Scroll Raises attack reach +20
Elixir Raises Musou charge speed +20

The Elixir and Wind Scroll were notoriously rare in the original. The Digital Deluxe Edition includes a Wind Scroll and a Tiger Amulet (each +10) plus a new item, the Six Secret Teachings, which raises Merit gain, per Koei Tecmo’s store listings.

Red Unique Items

These come from one event each. In the original they could be earned on any difficulty, in Musou or Free Mode.

Item Effect Where and how
Red Hare Saddle Start stages on Red Hare, the fastest horse Hulao Gate, Allied side: defeat Lu Bu, then catch the supply team that appears near Cao Cao’s start
Hex Mark Saddle Start on the second-fastest horse Assault on Cheng Du, Shu side: defeat every officer except Liu Zhang
Imperial Saddle Ride any horse Battle of Yi Ling, Shu side: stop Zhu Ran’s fire attack, defeat every Wu officer except Sun Quan, then catch the supply team
The Art of War Power-up items last longer Siege of He Fei Castle, Wei side: defeat every officer except Sun Quan and wait for the item report
Bodyguard Manual Bodyguards use charge attacks Siege of He Fei Castle, Wu side: defeat Xu Zhu, then jump the gap to the northeast room
The Way of Musou Use your True Musou at any health Guan Yu’s Escape: defeat Xiahou Dun
Survival Guide Attack x2 for 30 seconds near death Wu Zhang Plains, Shu side: wait for two Tiger Generals to fall, then follow the item report north of Zhuge Liang’s camp
Defender Defense x2 for 30 seconds near death Wu Zhang Plains, Wei side: wait for two of your playable officers to fall, then follow the item report
Fire Arrows Fire arrows deal extra damage Battle of Chi Bi, Wei side: defeat Zhou Yu before the fire attack
Buckler Guarding never knocks you off balance Battle of He Fei, Wu side: after Taishi Ci falls, defeat Zhang Liao when he attacks Sun Quan
Power Scroll Never lose a weapon deadlock Battle of He Fei, Wei side: trigger Gan Ning’s surprise attack and defeat him
Gold Harness Arrows never knock you off your horse Battle at Tong Gate, Wei side: defeat Pang De and Ma Dai, get Han Sui to defect, then catch the supply team

One remaster detail backs this up: players spotted that the in-game hint for a valuable item names “Xu Chu,” the alternate spelling of Xu Zhu, which matches the Bodyguard Manual condition.

Where to Farm Items

  • Battle of Shi Ting (Wu side, Hard). Called You Ting in the original English release, it was the classic item farm, and remaster players report it still is.
  • Raid on the Rogue Fortress. One player counted five weapons and five items per run (three from boxes, two from drops).
  • Siege of He Fei Castle. A good spot for rare Elixirs and Wind Scrolls, per the original game’s community.

Two remaster changes help: players report that dropped items no longer despawn, so you can leave them on the ground until you are ready, and that an item’s value is rolled when you pick it up. The game autosaves at the results screen, so there is no quick reload.
