Planet Zoo 2 is out now, Frontier Developments announced on October 13, 2026, calling it “the next generation of zoo simulators.” The launch post highlights the sequel’s biggest additions: flying birds, fully aquatic animals and Wildlife Reserves beyond the walls of your zoo. It costs $49.99 on Steam.

The Details

What Frontier lists as new in Planet Zoo 2:

  • Over 130 animals, including “flying birds and fully aquatic species for the very first time,” each with its own needs and behaviors, all documented in the official Zoopedia.
  • Wildlife Reserves. Conservation “now goes beyond your zoo”: you take on global conservation projects, meet their requirements, and release animals into customizable reserves around the world.
  • Easier building. Ready-to-place blueprints sit alongside piece-by-piece construction, with scaling, flexi-colour, simpler pathing, and new foliage and terrain brushes.
  • Steam Workshop support for sharing and downloading community creations from launch.
  • A new soundtrack by J.J. Ipsen.

Frontier says “launch is far from the end,” with post-launch support in the works, a first Community Challenge live now, and a WWF photo competition to be detailed “very soon.”

What This Means for Players

If you played the first Planet Zoo, the headline changes are birds that actually fly and animals that live fully underwater, which open up aviaries and aquariums as real exhibits rather than decoration. Wildlife Reserves give the conservation side a goal beyond breeding numbers, so expect your long-term planning to revolve around them.

Before you build, our Planet Zoo 2 editions guide compares what each version includes, and our release time guide covers the unlock on every platform. New guides will land on the Planet Zoo 2 hub as the cluster grows, and our October 2026 release list has everything else out this month.
