Halloween The Game: How to Win (Civilians and Michael)

Halloween: The Game has asymmetric win conditions to match its asymmetric sides: civilians have three ways to win, and Michael has a 12-victim kill list to complete. Knowing exactly what the other side needs is how you deny it. Here’s the full scoreboard.

How Civilians Win

Any of three outcomes:

  1. Escape through one of the routes (cellar, sedan, police wagon, gate; see the escape guide). A solo escape counts as your personal win even if the team falls.
  2. Survive the night: outlast the match timer, and the survivors win.
  3. Detain Michael: the arrest play ends the match instantly for everyone, the team’s knockout punch (how to do it).

Dead civilians aren’t spectators forever: the police respawn system puts the first victim back in the match as an armed rescuer, which matters for both survival and arrest wins.

How Michael Wins

Michael’s objective is a kill list of 12 main victims:

  • 3 special targets
  • 5 NPC residents
  • 4 player civilians

Complete the list and Michael escapes the map: his win. Police and Dr. Loomis are optional kills, threats to manage rather than required work.

Michael’s Toolkit

Michael is unkillable (only downable), and his named abilities shape the match:

  • Shape Jump: his signature repositioning tool, the reason he’s suddenly there.
  • Blackout: kills the lights, and can stall the sedan escape mid-getaway.

He can also cut phone lines to choke the civilians’ police pressure, and hide inside objects (closets, cars) for ambush kills: the single-player challenges even train it.

Scoring Rewards Patience

Here’s the counterintuitive part for new Michaels: the scoring system rewards stalking. Building Bloodthirst by menacing NPC residents before striking, and working your NPC victims before hunting armed players, scores and flows better than sprinting at the first babysitter you see. Play the horror movie: the game is literally scoring you for it.

Reading the Match as Either Side

  • Civilians: the win conditions stack. Push police pressure (enables wagon + reinforcements + arrests) while gathering escape items; every avenue you develop splits Michael’s attention.
  • Michael: your list includes 5 NPCs; civilians protecting and arming NPCs are stealing your win condition. Punish houses with active phones, and remember an activated exit is an ambush invitation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Michael lose if arrested once? An arrest ends the match as a civilian win outright.

Do escaped civilians count against Michael? Escapes deny him the four player kills he needs; even one escape can lock his list.

What’s the timer result if nobody escapes and Michael hasn’t finished the list? Surviving civilians take the survival win when time expires.

Is there matchmaking role choice? You can queue for your preferred side; Michael lobbies are the premium seat, as in every asymmetric horror game.
