AION 2 launches worldwide with eight classes: the Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric and Chanter. That splits into two armored melee fighters, two physical damage dealers, two spellcasters and two healers or supporters, and each class is built around one signature weapon.
Below we cover every class’s role, weapon and play style, then the questions about gender, faction and the ninth class the Korean version already has. This guide covers the global PC version, which opens to Founder’s Pack buyers on September 30 and to everyone on October 5, 2026. Class details come from NC’s own pages: the class showcase on the global site and the official Korean guidebook, which documents the version that launched in Korea and Taiwan in November 2025. Where the two versions differ, we say so.

The weapon names are our English renderings of the Korean guidebook, which lists one equipped weapon per class; the global client may label them slightly differently. NC’s Steam page says content runs from solo instances to 5-player parties and 10-player dungeons.
Gladiator and Templar: The Front Line
Gladiator. NC’s global site calls it “a frontline vanguard who carries a colossal blade and tears through the battlefield like a raging storm.” The Korean guidebook fills in the details: a greatsword class with high attack and high defense at the same time. Its main job is melee damage, but NC says its health and defensive tools let it double as a sub-tank. That mix of damage and durability is why it shows up so often in beginner advice, which our best class guide weighs up.
Templar. “A sworn guardian who stands firm like a fortress wall, holding the battlefield with an unbreakable shield.” Per NC, this is the classic tank: longsword and shield, high defense, and skills that protect allies as well as itself. The Korean skill list shows the toolkit: attacks that build enmity so enemies stay on you, a pull that drags a target in front of you, shield bashes that can stun, and a skill that breaks out of stuns, knockdowns and similar crowd control.
Assassin and Ranger: Physical Damage
Assassin. “A cold-blooded assassin who cuts through darkness and approaches unseen with deadly silence.” The guidebook describes a class that closes in using stealth, then overwhelms targets with fast combos from a dagger in each hand, adding status effects such as poison and stun to end fights quickly.
Ranger. “A quiet hunter who commands the battlefield with a single, decisive shot.” The Ranger fights with a bow at long range. NC calls it a tactical class whose results depend on positioning and timing, which suits a game NC pitches around flight and fighting at altitude.
Sorcerer and Spiritmaster: The Casters
Sorcerer. “A harbinger of ruin who devours all with a storm of arcane power.” A pure magic damage dealer with a spellbook, specialized in heavy damage over short windows. NC is blunt about the cost: low defense and low health, so the Sorcerer has to keep its distance and use its control spells well.
Spiritmaster. “A herald of spirits who commands the battlefield with elemental power.” The Spiritmaster carries an orb and summons spirits of different elements to fight alongside it. Per NC, it works indirectly, through its spirits, and wears enemies down with status-effect magic and damage over time rather than one big hit.
Cleric and Chanter: Healing and Support
Cleric. “A holy shepherd who preserves life with the gentle touch of light.” The dedicated healer, using a mace and a wide set of recovery skills to keep a party alive. NC describes it as the class that holds a team together when a fight turns bad.
Chanter. “A venerable guardian who bolsters allies with divine blessings and steadfast protection.” The Chanter uses a staff and specializes in mantras, buffs that raise the whole group’s stats. Per NC it can also control enemies with status effects and cover secondary healing or damage, which makes it the most flexible support in the roster.
Gender, Faction and the Ninth Class
Gender. None of NC’s official class pages, global or Korean, ties any class to a gender. Press coverage of NC’s November 2025 showcase for the Korean launch reported that character creation lets you choose either gender for every class, unlike gender-locked MMOs. NC has not restated this in a global notice, so treat it as reported for the Korean build until the global client confirms it.
Faction. You pick Elyos or Asmodian before creating your character. NC’s Korean guidebook says the two races differ in story, starting territory and maps, not in ability. NC’s global Early Access notice adds that Elyos and Asmodian servers are separate, and the two sides meet in the Abyss for PvP.
The Brawler. Korea and Taiwan already have a ninth class. NC added the Brawler in its Chapter 1 update in July 2026: a front-line gauntlet fighter that builds Rage with basic attacks and enters a Rampage state at set thresholds. NC’s global site lists eight classes, and NC has not said when the Brawler will reach global servers.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many classes does AION 2 have? Eight at the global launch: Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric and Chanter. The Korean and Taiwanese version has nine, because it added the Brawler in July 2026.
Which AION 2 class is the healer? The Cleric is the dedicated healer. The Chanter is a buffer that NC says can also provide secondary healing, so it can support a group but is not a full replacement.
Is the Templar the only tank? The Templar is the only class NC describes as a dedicated tank. NC says the Gladiator can serve as a sub-tank thanks to its health and defense, but its main role is damage.
Are any AION 2 classes gender-locked? NC’s class pages list no gender restrictions, and coverage of the Korean launch showcase reported that every class can be either gender. NC has not confirmed this separately for the global version.
Does your faction limit which classes you can play? NC’s Korean guidebook has you choose Elyos or Asmodian first and says the races differ in story and territory, not in ability. It lists no class restricted to one side.
