You upgrade your farming tools in Coral Island at Sanchez Brothers Blacksmith, where brothers Pablo and Rafael turn your axe, hoe, pickaxe, watering can and scythe into Bronze, Silver, Gold and finally Osmium versions in exchange for coins, metal bars and wood or hardwood. Your fishing pole and bug net are upgraded somewhere else, at Sunny’s Beach Shack, and the underwater Lumina Wand is upgraded at the Oracle Chamber in the Merfolk Kingdom. Below we cover the cost of every tier, where the bars come from, and what each upgrade changes.
This guide reflects version 1.3 of Coral Island, the “Ocean and Kisses” update Stairway Games released on June 18, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, plus its July hotfixes. The 1.3 patch notes, like the 1.1 and 1.2 notes before them, list no change to tool upgrade prices.
How Tool Upgrades Work
Every upgradable tool climbs the same ladder: basic, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Osmium. You cannot skip a tier, and each upgrade consumes the previous version of the tool. When you hand a tool to the blacksmith it leaves your inventory until the job is done, which takes one to four in-game days depending on the tier.
Per the community wiki, the blacksmith sits in the Woodlands area of the island and keeps these hours:
- Monday to Friday: 9:00 to 18:00
- Saturday: 9:00 to 14:00
- Sunday: closed
The Sunday closure matters. Drop a tool off on a Saturday and the shop is shut the next day, so the earliest you can collect it is Monday.
Upgrade Costs at the Blacksmith
The axe, hoe, pickaxe and scythe share one price list. These figures come from the community wiki’s current shop table:

Two exceptions, per the same table. The Osmium Pickaxe takes 5 Osmium Bars instead of 3. The watering can skips wood entirely at Bronze and Silver, then asks for Resin instead of hardwood: 3 Resin for Gold and 5 for Osmium.

Getting the Bars and Hardwood
Bars come from ore, and ore comes from the cavern. Per the community wiki, each of its four mines is 40 floors deep, and reaching the bottom of one opens the next:
- Earth mine: Bronze Ore
- Water mine: Silver Ore
- Wind mine: Gold Ore
- Fire mine: Osmium Ore
Per the community wiki, Pablo visits your farm with the Furnace recipe the morning after you first pick up Bronze Ore. The wiki lists the Furnace at 40 Stone and 20 Bronze Ore, and a Bronze Bar at 5 Bronze Ore plus 1 Coal. If mining is slow going, the blacksmith also sells ore over the counter: the community wiki lists Bronze at 150 coins, Silver at 500 and Gold at 1,500 from the start, with Osmium Ore at 4,500 once your town reaches Rank B. Gathering materials is the real work in most crafting games, much like hunting iron nuggets in Animal Crossing, and buying ore is a legitimate shortcut once your farm earns well.
Hardwood is the gate for the Gold and Osmium tiers. You need at least a Silver Axe to chop the large logs that drop it, so the axe is usually the first tool worth taking to Silver.
Fishing Pole, Bug Net and Lumina Wand
These three are not upgraded at the blacksmith.
Fishing pole and bug net: Sunny’s Beach Shack, which the community wiki says is closed on Tuesdays. Per the wiki, both follow the same four tiers but use Kelp Essence instead of bars: 2,000 coins, 5 Bronze Kelp Essence and 20 Wood for Bronze, rising to 15,000 coins, 5 Osmium Kelp Essence and 20 Hardwood for Osmium. Kelp Essence comes from an Extractor, which turns 10 kelp and 1 Glass into one bottle.
Lumina Wand: the Oracle Chamber underwater, run by Cho Oyu. Per the community wiki these upgrades cost bars, Solar Cores and hardwood, appear once your town reaches Rank A, and apply instantly instead of taking days.
What Each Upgrade Changes
- Axe: Bronze cuts large stumps, Silver cuts the large logs that drop hardwood, and Gold or Osmium clears everything, including the logs on your own farm. Every tier also fells trees in fewer swings.
- Pickaxe: Bronze breaks boulders and Silver breaks metal doors in the mines.
- Hoe and watering can: upgrades add charge levels. Hold the use button (left mouse button by default on PC) to charge, and the tool covers a wider area, from a single tile up to three by three and beyond.
- Enchantment slots: better tools hold more enchantments. According to Stairway’s update notes, tools are enchanted at the Giant Village, which opens through the Giants storyline in the mines, and enchantments are fuelled by donating gems, fossils or artifacts.
Tips to Avoid Losing a Workday
- Never drop off on Saturday unless you are happy to wait until Monday.
- Upgrade the watering can at the end of a season, when your fields are empty, so you are not stuck carrying water by hand.
- Take the axe to Silver early. It unlocks hardwood, and hardwood unlocks every later upgrade.
