Crimson Desert: How to Fast Travel

Kliff raising his sword beside Damiane in Crimson Desert key art

To fast travel in Crimson Desert, stand on an Abyss Nexus until its circle lights up blue, then open the world map, select any Nexus you have activated and choose Teleport. Nothing is unlocked for you in advance, so the whole system comes down to finding those stone platforms across Pywel.

Below we cover how to find and activate them, the map controls, what Pearl Abyss has changed since launch (you no longer need to get off your horse), and what still blocks a teleport, including captured bounty targets and loaded wagons. The rules below are verified against official patch notes up to version 2.03.02, the current build, and anything that comes from player reports is marked as such.

How Fast Travel Works in Crimson Desert

Your travel network is built from a few kinds of points:

  • Abyss Nexus. A flat stone platform with a circular pattern. Stand in the middle until it glows blue and it becomes a permanent teleport destination.
  • Abyss Cressets. Community guides use this name for puzzle points in ancient ruins. Solving the puzzle gives you an Abyss Artifact (a skill resource) and a travel point at the same time, which makes them worth the extra effort.
  • Abyss Skybridge Gates. Official patch notes confirm that restored Skybridge Gates can be teleported to as well.

Pearl Abyss has been adding to the network since launch. Patch 1.00.03 added more Abyss Nexuses across Pywel, patch 1.02.00 added one in Pailune, and patch 1.03.00 made Nexuses easier to discover. Patch 1.01.00 also cut the loading time for fast travel. Unlike Red Dead Redemption 2, where fast travel is a camp upgrade you buy, here the network grows as you explore.

How to Find and Activate an Abyss Nexus

  1. Watch the map for Mysterious Energy. Walkthroughs agree that a white circle with a question mark, labeled Mysterious Energy, means a Nexus, a Cresset or another exploration challenge is nearby. Not every one holds a travel point.
  2. Use Blinding Flash from high ground. Kliff’s lantern ability picks out points of interest as glints of light in the distance. Patch 1.03.00 improved lanterns and Blinding Flash so they give more hints.
  3. Stand on the platform. Walk into the center of the stone circle and wait until it lights up blue. That point is now active for good.
  4. Come back for puzzle points later. Community guides report that some Cresset puzzles need story abilities such as Force Palm or Focused Force Palm. If a puzzle will not respond, push the main story forward and return.

How to Teleport From the Map

Open the world map, hover over an activated Nexus or Cresset, and pick Teleport. Community guides list the input as Triangle on PS5, Y on Xbox, and a double-click on PC. The prompt is shown on screen either way.

The biggest change since launch is where you can teleport from. At release you had to stand still and get off your mount first, and many older guides still say so. Patch 1.02.00 loosened that so slight movement no longer blocks you, and patch 1.03.00 made teleporting work while mounted, falling, swimming or climbing walls.

Some states still stop you. Community guides say combat triggers a red “Cannot teleport in current state” message. Leave the fight, stop moving and try again.

What Still Blocks Fast Travel

Captured bounty targets. Player reports on the official Steam forums, and several walkthroughs, agree that a tied-up outlaw cannot come with you. Carrying one on your shoulder makes the Nexus unavailable. If you teleport while the target is tied to your horse, reports say they are gone when you summon the horse, and the job points you back to where you caught them. Bounty deliveries are a ride, not a jump.

Wagons and trade goods. Your wagon does not teleport with you. Official patch notes confirm that retrieving your horse or wagon costs part of the trade goods on board, and patch 1.16.00 made that loss bigger. Players describe the same when they teleport and then summon a loaded horse: part of the stack goes missing. For valuable cargo, drive it.

Story-locked areas. One player report on the Steam forums describes a “Cannot teleport to the selected location” message at a Delesyia Nexus, because that area was reserved for Kliff’s story and the party had to split up first.

As for your own wanted status, Pearl Abyss’s notes on it cover banks and constabularies. None of them list the Abyss Nexus as something it blocks.

Fast Travel to Your House at Howling Hill

The Greymane camp at Howling Hill, where your house sits, has a Nexus of its own, but it starts broken. Community guides describe a long repair:

  • Liberate Karin Quarry through the House Roberts quest chain in Hernand.
  • Reach Chapter 4 and finish “Mysterious Pot” for the Kuku Iron Pot, then learn Focused Force Palm near Scholastone.
  • Break into the chamber under Karin Quarry, seal the floating Abyss Transporter disc in the Kuku Iron Pot, and carry it back to the platform at camp.

Once it is installed you can teleport home from anywhere.

Can Damiane and Oongka Fast Travel?

Damiane and Oongka are playable through the character switch. Patch 1.13.00 lets both of them enter the Abyss, which was once Kliff-only. Player reports say the ground network of Nexus points works for them too. Some quests still ask you to switch back to Kliff, and the game shows a prompt when that happens.

If you are planning ahead, the Charting the Unknown expansion is now due October 29 and adds islands you reach by ship. For everything else, see every Crimson Desert guide we have published.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you fast travel with a bounty in Crimson Desert? Not with a captured target. Player reports say the Nexus is unavailable while you carry an outlaw, and a target tied to your horse is left behind when you teleport. Ride them to the constabulary instead.

Can you fast travel with a wagon? No. Players report the wagon stays where you left it, and official patch notes say retrieving a horse or wagon costs part of its trade goods. Drive loaded wagons to the trading post yourself.

Can you fast travel while riding a horse? Yes, as of patch 1.03.00. Before that update you had to dismount first, which is why some older guides still tell you to.

How do you fast travel to your house? Repair the broken Abyss Nexus at Howling Hill. Community guides say it needs the Abyss Transporter from under Karin Quarry, which you can only reach after getting the Kuku Iron Pot and Focused Force Palm in Chapter 4.

Why does an activated Nexus refuse to teleport you? Usually you are in combat or another state the game will not teleport from. Leave the fight, stop moving and retry. If the Nexus sits in a story area reserved for Kliff, switch to him first.
