Enshrouded launched its 1.0 release on October 15, 2026 without crossplay, so PC players share worlds with PC players and PS5 players with PS5 players. Keen Games says in its launch FAQ that the game “will not be cross-platform at launch,” and that it is working on cross-platform play but has “no current estimate on how much time it will take us.”
Below we cover Keen’s exact statement, what it does not cover, the co-op limits on each platform, the unconfirmed reports about a crossplay timeline, and what to do if your group is split between Steam and PlayStation.
What Keen Has Said About Crossplay
Keen answered the question directly in its launch FAQ, posted on Steam on October 13, two days before release. Asked whether the game will let you play with friends on other platforms, it says:
Enshrouded will not be cross-platform at launch, but we know many of your friendships have survived years of console wars. We are working on bringing cross-platform play to Enshrouded, but have no current estimate on how much time it will take us.
Our news story on Keen’s launch FAQ covers the rest of that post, including how Early Access saves carry into 1.0 and the Early Access reward.
That is a clear “not yet”: crossplay is in the works, but undated. The statement does not mention cross-progression or cross-buy, and none of Keen’s other 1.0 material does either. Its two 1.0 press releases, on June 25 and October 8, name the platforms (PC, PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S in spring 2027) without mentioning play across them. The PlayStation Store listing lists online play for “up to 8 online players with PS Plus” and does not list cross-platform play among its features. The FAQ on Keen’s website describes multiplayer only as co-op “up to 16” players, an answer written for the Steam version.
Dedicated servers point the same way. Keen’s support documentation covers installing the dedicated server on Steam, and nothing Keen has published says a PS5 copy can join one. Keen’s 1.0 changelog and the two hotfix changelogs it has posted since launch do not mention crossplay either.
Unconfirmed Reports About Crossplay
Search for Enshrouded crossplay and you will mostly find blogs run by game-server hosting companies, which sell Enshrouded servers. Several of them report that a Keen technical director told a German outlet in July that crossplay would not be ready for 1.0, and some add that it is planned for a later patch. Others say Keen calls crossplay a possible long-term goal, or that Adventure Sharing lets PC and PS5 players visit each other’s uploaded worlds.
Keen’s launch FAQ now confirms the broad strokes: crossplay was not ready for 1.0, and Keen is working on it. It gives no timing, though, so treat a “later patch” or any date you see elsewhere as a guess until Keen announces one. We could not find the July interview itself. The Adventure Sharing claim is also unconfirmed: Keen’s October 8 press release describes browsing Popular Adventures, tags and Share Codes in Adventure Sharing, but does not say whether adventures cross between Steam and PS5.
Co-op Limits on Each Platform
| Platform | Co-op size | How you play together |
|---|---|---|
| PC (Steam) | Up to 16 players | Hosted sessions or dedicated servers |
| PS5 and PS5 Pro | Up to 8 online players | PS Plus required for online play |
| Xbox Series X and Series S | Not released yet | Planned for spring 2027 |
The 16-player figure comes from the Steam store page; the 8-player figure from the PlayStation Store and Keen’s press materials. Both versions can also be played solo and offline.
On PC, Keen’s dedicated server FAQ says you join through Join in the main menu, which opens a server browser listing both dedicated servers and peer-to-peer sessions. Turn on the “Show dedicated server” option in the server filter to see dedicated servers, and mark favorites with the star icon so they sort to the top. That FAQ covers PC only.
What to Do if Your Group Is Split
If some of your friends are on Steam and some on PS5, you cannot share one world, and Keen has given no estimate for when you will. Your options:
- Pick one platform for the group. PC suits bigger groups and dedicated servers; PS5 suits a group of up to 8 that already plays on PlayStation.
- Do not count on moving a character later. Keen has not announced any way to transfer Steam saves to PS5. Our guide to whether Early Access saves carry over covers what does move between worlds on the same platform.
- Do not count on one purchase covering both. No cross-buy has been announced, and the game costs $39.99 on each store.
Both versions launched at the same moment, 11:00 AM Eastern on October 15, according to Keen, so neither half of a split group got a head start; our Enshrouded 1.0 release time guide has that time in every time zone.
What About Xbox
The Xbox Series X|S version is planned for spring 2027. Keen’s crossplay statement does not name platforms, so it has not said whether the Xbox version will connect with PC or PS5. Our guide to whether Enshrouded is coming to PS5 and Xbox has Keen’s full statement on the Xbox delay. Until the Xbox version has a date, any crossplay claim about it is guesswork.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Enshrouded crossplay between PC and PS5? Not yet. Keen Games’ launch FAQ says Enshrouded “will not be cross-platform at launch,” so since 1.0 arrived on October 15, PC and PS5 players each play with their own platform.
Can PS5 players join a PC dedicated server in Enshrouded? No. Enshrouded launched without cross-platform play, so a PS5 copy cannot join a world hosted on PC. Keen’s dedicated server documentation covers installing the server on Steam.
How many players can play Enshrouded together? Up to 16 on PC and up to 8 online on PS5, with PS Plus required for online play on PS5.
Is Enshrouded cross-save between Steam and PS5? No cross-save or save transfer has been announced, and Keen’s launch FAQ does not mention one.
Will Enshrouded get crossplay later? Keen says it is working on it. Its launch FAQ says: “We are working on bringing cross-platform play to Enshrouded, but have no current estimate on how much time it will take us.” No date has been announced.
