Naughty Dog is working on two new projects that will expand The Last of Us beyond Part I and Part II, studio head Neil Druckmann wrote on September 28, 2026, in a blog post closing The Last of Us Day. In the same post, he said the studio will stay quiet on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet for the rest of the year and fully reveal it in 2027.
The Details
The Last of Us. Druckmann answered the question fans ask every year directly: “We have a couple of very exciting new projects in very early stages – so we can’t say much about them at this point. I will tell you that both projects will expand the canon of The Last of Us beyond Part I and Part II.”
He noted that the studio has talked about more stories in this world ever since Grounded II, the documentary about making Part II, and added: “we wouldn’t return to it unless we had something meaningful to say. We believe these stories are worth telling.”
Intergalactic. On the studio’s next original game, first shown almost two years ago, Druckmann called it “Naughty Dog’s most ambitious game yet”, and then set expectations:
“we need to cook for just a little bit longer. So we want to set expectations: we’re going to be quiet for the rest of this year. In 2027, that changes. We’ll fully reveal Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and give you a proper look at Jordan’s wild sci-fi adventure.”
The post also says The Last of Us Day charity stream raised more than $11,000 for AbleGamers.
What This Means for Players
The Last of Us news is a confirmation, not an announcement. Druckmann does not say what form the two projects take, whether that is a Part III, something smaller or something outside games, and he gives no platforms or timing. “Very early stages” means you should not expect to see either one soon.
The Intergalactic line is the more concrete one: no new look this year, and a full reveal at some point in 2027. That is a reveal, not a release date, so the game itself is further out still.
In the meantime, The Last of Us Day sale is still running on PC, and our roundup of everything in The Last of Us Day 2026 has the details. If you are going back in, our guides cover how long Part II takes to beat and how old Ellie and Joel are across the story, and our best PS5 games of 2026 so far covers what to play while you wait.
When and Where
No timing or platforms for the two Last of Us projects. Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, a PS5 game, gets a full reveal in 2027, with no release window yet.
