Zelda Ocarina of Time: All Gold Skulltula Rewards

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time key art

There are 100 Gold Skulltulas in Ocarina of Time, and the cursed family in the House of Skulltula in Kakariko Village pay out at six milestones. The thing worth knowing before you commit weeks to this: everything genuinely useful is in by 50 tokens. The back half is for completion and nothing else.

Every Reward

  • 10 tokens: Adult’s Wallet, raising your carrying capacity to 200 rupees.
  • 20 tokens: Stone of Agony.
  • 30 tokens: Giant’s Wallet, raising capacity to 500 rupees.
  • 40 tokens: Bombchus.
  • 50 tokens: Piece of Heart.
  • 100 tokens: a Huge Rupee worth 200, repeatable.

Each milestone also frees one member of the cursed family, which is the story reason the rewards exist.

The Two That Matter Most

The wallets. At 10 and 30 tokens, these are the reason to start early. Farming rupees with a 99-rupee wallet is pointless, and our guide on how to farm rupees covers why capacity comes before income.

The Stone of Agony. At 20 tokens, it tells you when a hidden grotto or secret hole is nearby. On the Nintendo 64 it vibrates the Rumble Pak. In Ocarina of Time 3D it is the Shard of Agony, and it plays an audio ping instead, because the 3DS has no rumble hardware.

That is a genuine version difference worth knowing: if you are playing the 3DS version and waiting for a rumble that never comes, listen instead.

The Hundred-Token Reward Is Not Money

The final prize sounds better than it is. A repeatable 200-rupee Huge Rupee is, on paper, infinite money: leave the house, come back, take another.

In practice you have a 500-rupee wallet cap and very little left to buy by the time you have found 100 Skulltulas. It is a victory lap rather than a reward.

Where They Are

Skulltulas hide in every region and in both eras, in trees, on walls, inside dungeons, under rocks and behind bombable walls. Several are child-only and several are adult-only, which is the usual trap: you cannot sweep them in one pass.

The items that unlock the most of them are the Hookshot and Longshot, bombs, and the Boomerang as child Link. Our guide on how to get the Hover Boots covers another that opens a handful.

Worth It?

To 50, yes. The wallets, the Bombchus and a heart piece are real. Past that you are collecting for the sake of it, and our guide on all heart pieces is a better use of the same effort if you want your health bar longer.
