You get Technology Points in Palworld mostly by leveling up and by activating Great Eagle Statues and other fast travel points, then topping up with Technical Manuals found in chests, caught while fishing, or handed out by NPCs. Ancient Technology Points are a separate, rarer currency that comes from defeating Alpha Pals and tower bosses for the first time, plus Ancient Technical Manuals. Below we cover every source in the current 1.0 version, what the full release changed, and how to spend points so you never feel short.
This guide is checked against Pocketpair’s official patch notes up to v1.0.5, with item data from the community database. Palworld left early access on July 10, 2026, and 1.0 raised the level cap from 65 to 80, so guides written before July are missing a lot.
How Technology Points Work in Palworld 1.0
Open the main menu (Tab on keyboard by default, the menu button on a controller) and go to the Technology tab. Every recipe and building sits in a tier tied to your player level, and unlocking one costs points. Normal recipes cost Technology Points; the strongest items, marked as Ancient Technology, cost Ancient Technology Points instead.
The catch is that you never earn enough to unlock everything. Community tallies put the full tree at well over a thousand Technology Points, while leveling from 1 to 80 gives you under 500. Every unlock is a choice, which is why the extra sources below matter.
Every Way to Earn Technology Points
- Level up. Each level awards a fixed batch of points (six per level, per the community wiki), the backbone of your total.
- Activate Great Eagle Statues. The in-game tips confirm you gain Technology Points each time you activate a new statue, one point each per the community wiki, which counts tower fast travel points too.
- Unlock Watchtowers. Watchtowers are new in 1.0: climbing one reveals the surrounding map and turns it into a fast travel point. Several player guides report that the first activation also grants a point, the same as a statue.
- Use Technical Manuals. There are three tiers, and each is consumed from your inventory for a lump of points: the Advanced Technical Manual gives 1, the Innovative Technical Manual gives 2 and the Futuristic Technical Manual gives 3, per the community database. Since 1.0 you can use them in bulk instead of one at a time.
Technical Manuals come from several places, per the community database:
- Dungeon chests. Specific dungeons carry a dedicated book chest, from early ones like Hillside Cavern and Ravine Grotto up to Cherry Blossom Cave, Feybreak Cavern and Sunreach Skies. Higher-tier dungeons hold the better manuals.
- Enemy camp reward chests, which roll a manual roughly a third of the time.
- Fishing and fishing ponds across most regions.
- Arrogant Pal Critic NPCs, who ask to see a specific Pal and reward you for showing it. Pocketpair’s v1.0.4 notes mention critics in Sakurajima and Sunreach, and several of them hand out Futuristic or Ancient Technical Manuals.
- The PIDF Bounty Officer, who trades an Advanced Technical Manual for 5 Successful Bounty Tokens.
- Rare drops from Pals such as Katress, Wixen, Anubis and Lyleen.
How to Get Ancient Technology Points
Ancient Technology Points gate 1.0’s best gear. The in-game tip says you earn them by defeating powerful enemies, which in practice means:
- Alpha Pals: one point the first time you defeat each Alpha (the named field bosses marked on your map), per the community wiki.
- Tower bosses: five points the first time you beat each tower boss, per the community wiki. In 1.0 there are eight towers, including the new Azure Covenant Tower in Sunreach.
- Ancient Technical Manuals: one point each, from the same dungeon book chests, enemy camps and fishing spots as the regular manuals, plus some Pal Critic rewards.
Spend them carefully. The top 1.0 unlocks cost more than anything before them: the community database lists the Soralite Quarry at 7 Ancient Technology Points, the Ancient Hatchery at 8 and the Wing Pack at 9.
What Changed in 1.0
Pocketpair’s 1.0 changelog reworked the tree rather than just extending it. It “reviewed the unlock levels of technology,” added 15 new tiers (levels 66 to 80), many of them ancient-civilization recipes, and removed the dedicated fire and poison arrow weapons, since compatible bows now switch arrow types. Later patches kept adjusting unlock levels: v1.0.3 moved some Jetragon-related technologies from level 79 down to 70 and dropped the Aquatic Construction Kit from level 66 to 23, cutting its cost from 4 Ancient Technology Points to 1.
Pre-1.0 saves kept their player level but had main mission progress reset, per the official 1.0 changelog.
How to Spend Points Without Regret
- Unlock what your base needs next, not what looks cool. Production buildings save far more time than a weapon you will replace in ten levels.
- Assume nothing is refundable. Neither Pocketpair’s patch notes nor the community wikis describe any way to refund spent points, so treat every unlock as permanent.
- Clear Alpha Pals as you explore. One Ancient point each is easy to leave behind, and the bosses also drop Ancient Civilization Parts.
- Read the unlock condition first. Some 1.0 recipes are reported to need a specific tower boss beaten as well as the points.
