Sapphires in RuneScape: Dragonwilds come from mining gold ore once you have the Gem Prospector perk at Mining level 16: each gold ore you mine has a 1 in 20 chance to drop one, and gold ore nodes sit in the Bloodblight Swamp and in The Lake beneath Dowdun Reach. Dragon Teeth are mined from a giant dragon skull in the western Stormtouched Highlands with an Iron pickaxe, and every lesser dragon drops three to five of them when it dies.
Both are slow to stockpile, and both gate gear people want: Sapphires go into the Staff of Light, the Willow bows and two pieces of jewelry, and Dragon Teeth into the Challenge Horn that starts the Velgar fight and the wax every Rune piece needs. Here is where to farm each, per the game’s official wiki and Jagex’s patch notes.
Where to Find Sapphires
There is no Sapphire node. Sapphires are a bonus drop from gold ore nodes, and only after you unlock the gem perk:
- Reach Mining 16. The Gem Prospector perk lets mined ore drop gemstones. Before it, gold ore never drops a Sapphire.
- Get an Iron pickaxe. The wiki’s changelog records that gold ore needs an Iron pickaxe or better since the 0.12 update; older guides still say Bronze. Our ore locations guide covers the Iron pickaxe recipe.
- Mine gold ore. Nodes are in the Bloodblight Swamp in eastern Ghornfell and in The Lake, the underground area beneath The Courtyard in Dowdun Reach. The swamp’s mist poisons you, so bring antipoison; our potions guide covers it.
- Expect about 20 ore per gem. The wiki lists a 1 in 20 chance per gold ore. By our math, the 4 Sapphires a Staff of Light needs take around 80 gold ore on average.
Gold nodes refill after three in-game days, as long as you are at least 100 metres away and nothing is built on them. Two spells speed things up. Rocksplosion (Mining 11) instantly harvests every node within 5 metres and can still roll gems, limited by the best pickaxe in your bag. Much later, Divine Rock (Mining 80) turns five ore you drop into a personal vein worth 15, and its Accelerated Veins upgrade at Mining 90 adds a gem chance. The wiki believes the gem matches the ore you drop, so five gold ore would roll Sapphires, but it flags that as unconfirmed.
Outside mining, Sapphires turn up rarely in the regional reward packs (1 in 50 for each pack the wiki lists) and in old-kingdom chests, per the in-game journal. No merchant sells them. Domri, the Umbral Sands merchant, buys them for 80 Garou Chits, but they are worth far more to you as crafting material.
What Sapphires Make
- Staff of Light (4 Sapphires): the power level 4 masterwork staff that our best weapons guide rates among the best staffs to ascend.
- Willow Shortbow (2), Willow Longbow (4) and the Undead Ranger’s Bow (2), all power level 5. Our bow guide has the full recipes.
- Ring of Recoil (2) and Amulet of Magic (4) at the Jeweler’s Bench. Our jewelry guide covers the Clay Mould and the bench.
- Enchanted Mithril Bolts: 1 Sapphire, 10 Nature Runes and 15 Air Runes enchant 33 Mithril Bolts at the Fletching Bench.
- Sapphire decoration from the Build Menu, if you have one to spare.
Where to Find Dragon Teeth
You can mine them or take them from dragons.
Mining the skull. The wiki’s Dragon Slayer walkthrough sends you to the western Stormtouched Highlands, past the skeleton the garou use as a home, to a dragon skull whose teeth you can mine. Its map marks six of them. Each gives one Dragon Tooth, needs an Iron pickaxe, and refills after two in-game days under the same 100-metre rule as ore.
Killing dragons. Every lesser dragon always drops teeth, per the wiki’s drop tables:
- Green dragons (power level 5) in Fellhollow, around Emberwood, Dragon’s Run, Hope’s Fall and Silverthorn Keep: 3 to 5. Blightscale, a named green dragon below the cliffs to Silverthorn Keep, drops the same.
- Blue dragons (power level 6) in Dowdun Reach: 3 to 5.
- Red dragons (power level 7) in the Umbral Sands, where the wiki notes at least one spawn only appears at night: 3 to 5.
- Black dragons in the Scorned Wilderness raid: 6 to 12.
All of them are weak to Water and resist Fire, and blue dragons also resist Ranged. Green and blue dragons take up to four in-game days to respawn, red dragons four to five. Each kill also drops hides and Dragon Blood, and green and blue dragons add Ascension Shards, so a dragon run pays twice.
Dragon Teeth weigh 5 each and stack to 25. The wiki notes they are one of the few items you keep in your inventory when you die.
What Dragon Teeth Make
- Challenge Horn: 1 Dragon Tooth, 1 Bloodwood Sap and 5 Bronze Bars at the Blacksmith’s Bench, for the Dragon Slayer quest. Our Velgar guide covers the fight it starts.
- Ground Dragon Tooth at the Grindstone, which goes into the Draconic Vis Wax that every Rune piece needs. Our Rune gear guide walks through that chain.
- Keris: a power level 7 dagger with extra damage against kalphites, from 8 Adamant Bars, 6 Dragon Teeth, 3 Desert Thread and 2 Gypsum Wax.
- Lumberjack potion: Irit, a Dragon Tooth and a Glass Vessel at the Brewing Cauldron.
- Cooling Ferocious Infusion: Cactus Water, a Dragon Tooth and Toadflax at a Cooking Range.
- Dragon trophies: 6 teeth, 3 matching dragon leathers and 2 Ash Planks for each green, blue, red or black dragon trophy decoration.
Tips Most Players Miss
- Gold does double duty. Keep every gold ore you mine for Sapphires: the Jeweler’s Bench, the Willow bows and Fine Cloth all want Gold Bars too. Our Furnace guide covers smelting.
- Do not sell teeth early. Iasadair in the Umbral Sands buys them for 16 Garou Chits, but a Rune set needs Ground Dragon Tooth for every piece of wax.
- Plan a Velgar trip. The skull and the Iron pickaxe are both Ghornfell content, so mine extra teeth while you are there for the Challenge Horn. Every other guide is on our RuneScape Dragonwilds hub.
