Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 game director Dmitry Grigorenko confirmed on September 28, 2026, that Chaos enemies are harder to fight than Tyranids, and said Saber Interactive plans to revisit it. “We understand that Chaos is more difficult to fight against Tyranids, yes. There will be some pass on this in the future,” he wrote in the official question-and-answer thread on Reddit, a session publisher Focus Entertainment set up in its September community update.
What the Director Actually Promised
The answer came in reply to a player in Japan, who said the small East Asian player base makes random matches hard to find, so Chaos missions often get rushed or avoided. They asked whether Chaos behavior against bots, or balance for solo and short-handed squads, would change.
Some reports describe balance work already under way. Grigorenko’s words are narrower: he confirmed the difficulty gap and promised a pass “in the future,” with no date and no patch named. He also cooled one specific hope: “I don’t think it will [be] about bots being good vs Chaos specifically, though.” Solo players waiting for smarter AI teammates against Chaos should not expect that to be the focus.
He added that the team reads feedback from every community, and that checking it is “a part of my daily routine.”
Other Answers From the Session
Grigorenko answered dozens of questions across the session. The ones with the most weight for players:
- Loading times: significant code changes land in Patch 15 and Patch 16, and Saber estimates loading times will drop by around 30% once everything is live.
- Crossplay text chat for console players is being worked on now.
- Chaos bosses: asked for more Chaos boss operations (Chaos has one to the Tyranids’ three), he said “something interesting” is in progress that is not on the Year 3 roadmap.
- Operations: both new operations on the roadmap will have bosses.
- Voice packs: the voice work already recorded ships in Patch 15, and he said that is probably the last.
Patch 15 is the next milestone. Focus’s September community update dates it for October 1 and lists Chaos Siege mode, which lets players fight as the Heretic Astartes in Siege.
What This Means for Players
Nothing changes on Chaos missions yet, and no fix is dated. Until the pass arrives, the practical answer is the one horde-shooter players already know: build for the faction you are about to face. Our Helldivers 2 loadouts for each faction take that same approach in another co-op shooter.
If you want more Warhammer while you wait, Total War: Warhammer III’s Lords of the End Times just opened the Immortal Empires map to new players. Looking for a squad game to play alongside it? See our best PC co-op games of 2026 and best PS5 co-op games of 2026.
