One More Level released the first update for Valor Mortis on October 16, 2026, three days after launch, with fixes for common crashes and story progression blockers. The studio’s patch notes on Steam call it “a first round of bug fixes and optimization” and promise “a lot more to come.”
The Details
Crashes and performance. The patch fixes “some of the most common crashes that we have seen across platforms.” It adds a pop-up that warns players running outdated graphics drivers. The studio says updating drivers has given players “the biggest performance and stability improvements.” It also turns down error logging, which could cost a little performance in rare cases. One More Level says it is still investigating other performance reports.
A tip for Playtest and Demo players. If you played either one and now get stutters or big performance drops, the studio recommends deleting your old settings file:
AppData\Local\ValorMortis\Saved\Config\Windows\GameUserSettings.ini
Progression fixes:
- Chapter 4: the post-boss sequence did not always save progress after the fight and cutscene, which in rare cases left players unable to continue.
- Chapter 12: a progression blocker is resolved, along with edge cases where cutscenes might not trigger or unlock the next lantern.
- Chapter 5: a fix for an issue that could affect starting or progressing the sidequest “In the Name of Art.”
One enemy fix. Volunteer enemies could stop attacking after being backstabbed on patrol. The notes sign that one off with “No more free Volunteer kills for you.”
What This Means for Players
If you hit a wall after the Chapter 4 boss or partway through Chapter 12, update and reload before restarting anything. Our how long to beat guide shows where those chapters sit in the campaign.
Backstabs still open fights, but a stabbed Volunteer now fights back. Our parry and early combat guide covers how to handle them head on. If the game still feels too punishing after the fixes, see which difficulty settings Valor Mortis has. Every guide we have is on our Valor Mortis hub.
