Warframe: How to Get Platinum Without Paying

A Warframe wreathed in flames charges through a corridor with an enemy in Warframe

The only reliable way to get Platinum in Warframe without paying is trading: farm items other players want, mostly Prime parts, mods, Arcanes and Riven mods, and sell them for the Platinum those players bought. No mission, quest or event drops Platinum directly, so every free Platinum you earn comes from another player.

New accounts also start with a small Personal Platinum balance, and Daily Tribute login rewards hand out coupons that make paid Platinum cheaper, but neither is a way to farm it. Below: what to farm and sell, how to spend your first Platinum, and the rules that trip people up.

Why Trading Is the Only Real Method

Platinum is Warframe’s premium currency, and DE’s design lets players who pay share it with players who do not. As DE’s own drop table page puts it, paying players get “first dibs” on content using Platinum, “which can be traded to free players”. That is the whole free route: you farm something, a paying player wants it now, and they pay you in Platinum.

You need two things before your first sale:

  1. Mastery Rank 2, the minimum to trade.
  2. Two-factor authentication turned on in Account Management on warframe.com (required on PC and on Cross Platform Save accounts).

Our guide on how to trade in Warframe walks through Maroo’s Bazaar, the trade window and the credit tax.

What to Farm and Sell

Item Where it comes from Notes
Prime parts and Prime sets Void Relics, opened in Void Fissure missions The classic money-maker; full sets sell for more than single parts
Void Relics Mission rewards across the Star Chart Relics can be traded whether they are vaulted or not
Mods Enemy drops, Syndicates, events Rare and hard-to-get mods sell best
Arcanes Endgame activities and vendors Taxed by rank, so the receiver pays more for high ranks
Riven mods Sorties and other endgame rewards Both players need Mastery Rank 8 to trade them
Ayatan Sculptures and Stars Found in missions Tradeable, or cash them in with Maroo for Endo

Prices are set entirely by players, so check what an item is going for before you list it. They move whenever DE runs a Prime Access or puts old relics back into rotation: a Prime Warframe whose relics just became easy to farm can get cheaper fast. Most traders look up current prices on warframe.market, a fan-run site that DE does not operate.

Ducats: Not Platinum, but Worth Knowing

Prime parts can also be exchanged for Ducats at the kiosks in Relays. Ducats buy items from the traveling trader Baro Ki’Teer, and some of his stock, such as Primed mods, can be sold to other players for Platinum. It is a slower route, and duplicate Prime parts that nobody wants to buy are the usual Ducat fodder.

Your Starting Platinum and Daily Tribute Coupons

New accounts start with 50 Personal Platinum. Personal Platinum cannot be traded or gifted, and the Market spends it before any Platinum you bought or traded for. Our advice: spend it on Warframe and weapon slots, which you will run short of quickly, and never on rushing Foundry builds or cosmetics.

Daily Tribute, the login reward, sometimes gives a coupon instead of an item:

  • On PC, a Platinum discount coupon takes a percentage off one Platinum purchase.
  • On console and mobile, the coupon adds bonus Platinum to one regular Platinum pack, and in some regions console players get only one of the two types.
  • A coupon covers one purchase within its time limit (usually 48 hours), and coupons cannot be stacked.

Coupons only help if you plan to buy Platinum anyway, but if you do, waiting for a big one is the cheapest way to do it. Buying a Warframe or weapon outright with Platinum also includes its inventory slot and an Orokin Reactor or Catalyst.

Other Free Platinum Sources

DE occasionally gives Platinum away through official contests, Devstream giveaways and partner promotions, and some PlayStation Plus packs include Personal Platinum. These are rare and cannot be planned around, so trading stays the method to rely on.

Rules That Trip People Up

  • Personal Platinum cannot be traded or gifted. That includes the starting 50 and Platinum gifted to you.
  • Switch Platinum stays on Switch. Platinum cannot be traded between Nintendo Switch and other platforms, as our Warframe crossplay and cross save guide explains.
  • Your trades per day equal your Mastery Rank, so a new account can only make a couple of sales a day. Ranking up raises the limit.
  • Leveled weapons and built Warframes cannot be sold. Sell the parts or blueprints before you build them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you get Platinum for free in Warframe? Yes, by trading items to other players for their Platinum. No mission or reward drops it directly.

How much Platinum do you start with? 50 Personal Platinum, which cannot be traded or gifted.

What is the best thing to sell for Platinum? Prime parts and full Prime sets from Void Relics are the steadiest sellers, with rare mods, Arcanes and Riven mods close behind. Prices change, so check before you list.

What should I spend my first 50 Platinum on? Warframe and weapon slots. Rushing builds and buying cosmetics are the usual early regrets.

Can you trade Ducats for Platinum? Not directly. Ducats buy Baro Ki’Teer’s items, and some of those, such as Primed mods, can then be sold for Platinum.

Can Switch players earn Platinum by trading? Yes, with other Switch players. Platinum cannot be traded between Switch and other platforms.
