The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt set a new all-time concurrent player record on Steam on September 29, 2026, the day its free Remastered update launched. Steam’s own player statistics showed a peak of 120,324 players that afternoon, well past the previous high of 103,329 from January 2020, which third-party tracker Steam Charts records.
CD Projekt Red marked the moment on X: “11 years after launch, more witchers are now walking the Path across the Continent than ever before.”
The Numbers
- New peak: at least 120,324 concurrent players, per Steam’s stats page at 17:33 UTC. The count may still rise.
- Rank: eighth on Steam’s most-played list at that time.
- Old record: 103,329 in January 2020, after the surge that followed Netflix’s first season of The Witcher.
- Original launch: the game peaked at about 92,000 players in May 2015, per Steam Charts.
That means an 11-year-old single-player RPG just beat both its own launch and its Netflix bump, and the day isn’t over.
AMD Players: Update Your Driver
Launch day wasn’t smooth for everyone. CD Projekt Red’s support account told players to install the recommended graphics drivers: NVIDIA 617.14, Intel 32.0.101.8993, and AMD 26.9.2, which had not been released yet when it posted.
AMD then released Adrenalin 26.9.2 the same day, listing The Witcher 3 Remastered under new game support, and CD Projekt Red followed up: “AMD users: the latest GPU drivers are now available! If you’ve been experiencing visual issues in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered, please make sure to download and install the latest drivers.”
Neither company has described the exact problem beyond “visual issues”, and neither has said the new driver fixes every case. Updating before you play is the official advice.
