WoW Forever: How Camping Works

Players resting around a campfire beside a canvas tent in a forest in World of Warcraft: Forever

Camping in World of Warcraft: Forever starts with Cooking: the old Cooking Fire becomes a Basic Campfire, and placing one creates a shared campsite. Nearby players can each add one profession-made camp feature, up to three on a Basic Campfire, and anyone who sits or crafts at the camp for at least one minute gets the benefits of those features, most of them one-hour buffs.

This guide covers how the system works, what every profession brings, how to unlock the items and the rules that trip players up. Everything is verified against Blizzard’s Gather Around the Campfire post (October 21, 2026), its deep dive panel recap and the beta development notes, as of October 25. WoW Forever launches on November 4; our launch time guide has the hour in your region.

How Camping Works

Blizzard’s rules, in order:

  1. A Cook places a Basic Campfire. It needs Cooking skill 1, so any character can carry one.
  2. Nearby players add camp features. A Basic Campfire “can support up to three special crafted objects contributed by nearby players, with each player able to add one.”
  3. Everyone sits. “Players sitting or crafting at a campsite for at least 1 minute will gain the benefits from other camp features.” Blizzard describes it as needing to “sit by the campfire briefly and become rested before returning to the road.”
  4. The buffs last an hour. The panel recap calls them “one-hour buffs,” and Blizzard says all camping features “require a campfire to be nearby and share a cooldown of 1 hour.”

Cooks can later learn upgraded campfires that hold five or even 10 objects, which makes the Cook the most valuable person at a big camp. Campsites also offer more than buffs: the recap lists vendors, repairs and profession workspaces, and Blizzard names Alchemy Laboratories and Tanning Racks as later camp conveniences.

Every Profession’s Camp Feature

Blizzard’s table lists one sample feature per profession. Each profession has three different objects, learned at different skill levels, but per the recap “each profession provides its own buff or utility no matter which object is placed.”

Profession Camp feature Skill What it gives you and others sitting nearby Does not stack with
Cooking Basic Campfire 1 Allows cooking and up to 3 camp features None
First Aid First Aid Kit 20 3 to 56 Stamina, by level Power Word: Fortitude
Fishing Fishing Bowl 20 8% increased stats Blessing of Kings
Alchemy Mana Well 20 10 to 29 Mana every 5 seconds, by level Blessing of Wisdom
Blacksmithing Sharpening Wheel 20 6 to 34 Strength, by level Strength of Earth Totem
Enchanting Enchanted Lute 20 Armor, all stats and all resistances, by level Mark of the Wild
Engineering Reagent Bot 20 Lets you buy reagents at the camp None listed
Herbalism Incense Candle 20 2 to 25 Intellect, by level Arcane Intellect
Leatherworking Camp Tent 20 Rested experience worth 5% of a level None listed
Skinning Camp Chair 20 2% critical strike chance with spells and attacks Moonkin Aura
Tailoring Faction Banner 20 14 to 32 Spirit, by level, for your faction only Divine Spirit

Two details from Blizzard’s fine print matter. The Camp Tent has “no effect if Rested experience already exceeds that value,” so it helps most right after you spend your rested bonus. And the Faction Banner only buffs “members of your faction,” which matters on a PvP ruleset.

How to Unlock Camping and Camp Features

  • The Campfire. “Early in your adventures, a simple quest introduces the Camping system.” The Basic Campfire comes from Cooking, so learn Cooking early.
  • Your first camp feature. “Once a profession reaches skill level 20, you can acquire its first campsite items through starter zone quests or purchase them from a profession trainer.” The recap adds that special NPCs who introduce players to camping teach them too.
  • Advanced features. “Items that require skill level 140 or higher are found through drops in dungeons and raids,” as Blueprint recipes from specific bosses.

You can learn two primary professions plus all three secondary ones: Cooking, Fishing and First Aid. That means every character can bring a campfire and, once those two secondary skills reach 20, a First Aid Kit and a Fishing Bowl, no matter which primary professions they pick. If you are still planning your character, our ruleset guide and upgrade pack guide cover the decisions that come before your first campfire.

How to Get the Camp Buffs, Step by Step

  1. Find or build a camp. Place your Basic Campfire, or stop at one another player has lit.
  2. Add your feature. Use your profession’s camp item near the fire if there is a free slot. Each player adds one.
  3. Sit down. Blizzard’s beta development notes say the buff also works while sitting in a chair, sleeping, lying down or using the kneeling emote, and that you can now buff, cast and craft while you wait without standing up.
  4. Wait one minute. Then you get every other feature’s buff, and they last an hour.

Rules That Trip Players Up

  • Camp buffs and class buffs do not stack. Blizzard says the effects “are variants of buffs normally provided by specific classes and are exclusive with them.” If a Priest in your group is already casting Power Word: Fortitude, a First Aid Kit adds nothing, so bring a different feature.
  • Fire burns. The October 1 beta notes say campfires no longer damage players below level 5 and deal reduced damage to players under 90% health, which tells you standing in one hurts.
  • Camps are not safe. Blizzard warns that “some places in Azeroth are better suited to a quiet rest than others,” and that on a PvP ruleset “that risk increases when enemy players come upon your camp.”
  • The tent and the Legacy tree work together. Blizzard’s recap describes a “Well Rested” Legacy talent that increases rested experience gains and raises the cap; our Legacy system story explains the trees.

Our Pick for Leveling

For a leveling character, the Camp Tent is the most useful single feature, because extra rested experience is pure leveling speed. Skinning and Leatherworking, a classic pairing, brings both the Camp Tent and the Camp Chair. If you are leveling with friends, split professions so your features cover what your classes do not: a group without a Paladin gets the most from a Fishing Bowl, and one without a Mage wants the Incense Candle.
