WoW Forever: How to Get to Ragefire Chasm

A blue-haired Skyborne man in green and gold robes outside a wooden workshop in World of Warcraft: Forever

Ragefire Chasm is inside Orgrimmar in World of Warcraft: Forever: its entrance is in the Cleft of Shadow, the dark canyon that runs through the middle of the city. It is a five-player dungeon for levels 13 to 18, the first dungeon a Horde character can run.

Below we cover how to walk to the entrance, what level to be, the five quests worth collecting before you go (two of them are in other cities), the bosses, and how to get a group together. Everything is checked against Blizzard’s WoW Forever posts and development notes as of November 7, three days after launch.

Where Ragefire Chasm Is

Ragefire Chasm is a cave system of lava and fire under Orgrimmar. Its entrance sits in the Cleft of Shadow, the shadowy lower district of the city that the original game’s Horde players will remember, and WoW Forever kept it there.

  1. Enter Orgrimmar by the main gate from Durotar into the Valley of Strength.
  2. Find a passage down into the Cleft of Shadow. It is the dark, narrow canyon that winds through the center of the city, lower than the districts around it.
  3. Follow the Cleft to the dungeon entrance, a cave mouth in the canyon wall, and walk through the instance portal inside.

If you get lost, ask a city guard. Blizzard’s new player’s starter guide says guards give directions and mark the spot on your map.

Because the entrance is in the middle of Orgrimmar, Ragefire Chasm is a Horde dungeon in practice. An Alliance character would have to fight through a Horde capital to reach it. WoW Forever gives the Alliance its own dungeon at the same level instead: the new Hall of Thanes beneath Ironforge, which Blizzard’s dungeon overview lists for levels 13 to 18.

What Level the First Dungeon Is

Dungeon Level range Where Faction it suits
Ragefire Chasm 13 to 18 Cleft of Shadow, Orgrimmar Horde
Hall of Thanes (new) 13 to 18 Beneath Ironforge, Dun Morogh Alliance
Ruins of Lordaeron (new) 15 to 20 Above Undercity, Tirisfal Glades Horde

Ragefire Chasm and the Hall of Thanes share the lowest range of any dungeon in the game. Blizzard’s Return to Azeroth guide says the nine new dungeons span levels 13 to 60, and none of the original dungeons starts lower than Ragefire Chasm.

Its quests can be picked up from level 9, but the monsters inside are in their mid teens, so most groups go in around 13 to 15.

Ragefire Chasm Quests Worth Taking In

All five are Horde quests. Collect them before you zone in, because three of the givers are nowhere near the dungeon:

Quest Who gives it Where What you do inside
Testing an Enemy’s Strength Rahauro Elder Rise, Thunder Bluff Kill the troggs and their shamans
Searching for the Lost Satchel Rahauro Elder Rise, Thunder Bluff Find Maur Grimtotem’s lost satchel
The Power to Destroy… Varimathras Royal Quarter, Undercity Recover two spellbooks from the Searing Blade
Slaying the Beast Neeru Fireblade Cleft of Shadow, Orgrimmar Bring back Taragaman the Hungerer’s heart
Hidden Enemies Thrall Orgrimmar The dungeon step at the end of a quest chain that starts with Thrall

A few practical notes:

  • Neeru Fireblade is on the way in. He is in the Cleft of Shadow itself, so his quest is the easiest to grab.
  • Rahauro is a trip. Thunder Bluff is a long way from Orgrimmar, so Tauren and anyone else passing through Mulgore should pick up both of his quests first. Our guide to getting to Thunder Bluff has the route.
  • Varimathras is across the sea. Undead characters pass through Undercity anyway; for everyone else, our guide to getting to Undercity from Orgrimmar covers the zeppelin.
  • Hidden Enemies takes setup. It is the last step of a chain from Thrall, so start the chain early if you want it done on the same run.
  • Share what you can. Blizzard’s beta notes fixed several dungeon quests that were shareable when they should not have been, so not every quest can be shared. Each player who wants a quest should pick it up from its giver.

Blizzard’s development notes also confirm Hidden Enemies is in the launch game: a fix in its November 2 notes stopped the Lieutenant’s Insignia from staying in your bags after the quest.

The Bosses

Ragefire Chasm has four bosses: Oggleflint, Taragaman the Hungerer, Jergosh the Invoker and Bazzalan. Taragaman’s heart is the Slaying the Beast objective, so make sure someone with that quest is in the group when he goes down. The cave is ringed by lava; do not fight on the edge.

Is It Worth Running?

For gear and quest rewards, yes. For raw experience, it depends on the group. Blizzard cut the bonus experience from dungeon quests by half during the beta, then raised the experience from killing creatures in dungeons by about 20%, and changed group experience back to the Classic Era rule, where “only the individual’s level matters” rather than the highest-level member’s. Its developers said they expected those changes to “dramatically increase experience earned in dungeons for most players.”

How to Get a Group

WoW Forever has no automatic Dungeon Finder. The Group Finder lets you list yourself or your group and browse other listings, then everyone travels to the entrance. Our guide to whether there is a Dungeon Finder shows how it works, including the “Show All Level Ranges” box if Ragefire Chasm is missing from your list.

Groups need a tank and a healer. Our guides to the best tank class and the best healer class cover who can fill each role at this level. Every WoW Forever guide we have is on our World of Warcraft hub.
