The Great Fairy’s Sword in Majora’s Mask is the reward for returning all 15 Stray Fairies from Stone Tower Temple to their Great Fairy Fountain. Not Woodfall, not Snowhead, not Great Bay. Stone Tower specifically, which is the last dungeon in the game.
How the Stray Fairy System Works
Each of the four temples contains 15 Stray Fairies, and each has its own Great Fairy Fountain in the same region. Return a full set of 15 and that region’s Great Fairy gives you a reward.
Four dungeons, four rewards, and they are not interchangeable. The Great Fairy’s Sword is Stone Tower’s.
Clock Town Is the Exception
There is a fifth Great Fairy, in North Clock Town, inside a small cave, and she works differently. She needs only one Stray Fairy, and her reward is the Great Fairy Mask.
That lone fairy is in the Laundry Pool in South Clock Town during the day, or floating above the water in the Stock Pot Inn area of East Clock Town at night.
Get this one early. The Great Fairy Mask draws Stray Fairies toward you, which makes collecting the other 60 meaningfully easier.
Collecting Stone Tower’s Fifteen
Stone Tower Temple is the game’s hardest dungeon, and its Stray Fairies are correspondingly awkward. Several are behind puzzles you would otherwise skip, and several are only reachable after the temple flips upside down.
Two practical notes:
- Wear the Great Fairy Mask while you explore. It pulls nearby fairies to you and saves a great deal of backtracking.
- They do not persist across cycles. Fairies you have collected but not delivered are lost when you play the Song of Time, so finish the set within one cycle. Our guide on how saving works covers what does carry over.

What the Sword Is
The Great Fairy’s Sword is a large two-handed blade that equips to a C-button rather than replacing your main sword, which means you can switch to it for damage and back for shield use.
