Kingdom Hearts: How Many Games There Are

There are 10 core Kingdom Hearts games on consoles and handhelds, plus one full remake (Re:Chain of Memories) and five mobile or browser games, for 16 releases in total, with Kingdom Hearts IV announced for late 2027. Only three of those carry a number, which is why the count confuses so many people.

Below, we list every game in release order, cover the mobile titles you can no longer play, and show which collection gets you the most games today.

Every Core Kingdom Hearts Game, in Release Order

These are the 10 games released on consoles and handhelds, and every one of them continues the series plot. Dates are the first release anywhere, per Square Enix’s official Kingdom Hearts site and the publisher’s press materials.

Melody of Memory is a rhythm game rather than an action RPG, but its story scenes lead toward the next chapter, so we count it. 0.2 is short, but it is a playable episode, not a movie.

We left out Kingdom Hearts III Re Mind, because it is paid DLC for Kingdom Hearts III rather than a standalone game, and Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover, which is a film you watch, not a game you play.

Remakes, Final Mix Versions and What Counts Twice

Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories (PS2, 2007 in Japan) is a full 3D remake of the Game Boy Advance game. It is the version in the modern collections, but it tells the same story, so we count it as a remake.

Final Mix editions are expanded re-releases, not separate games. The original Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts II and Birth by Sleep each got a Final Mix in Japan with new bosses, new cutscenes and rebalanced combat. They stayed Japan-only until the HD collections brought them west. The 2002 PS2 release of the first game, for example, lacks the Final Mix additions such as the Unknown superboss and extra cutscenes.

Re:coded is itself a remake of a 2008 Japanese mobile-phone game called Kingdom Hearts coded.

The Mobile and Browser Games

Five more Kingdom Hearts games released on phones or in browsers. Most can no longer be played.

• Kingdom Hearts V CAST (mid-2000s): a short action game for Verizon phones in the US.
• Kingdom Hearts coded (2008): the episodic Japanese phone game later remade as Re:coded.
• Kingdom Hearts χ (2013): a Japan-only browser game that became the base for the mobile titles.
• Kingdom Hearts Union χ (2015, first released as Unchained χ): the mobile game that told the story of the Keyblade War era. Its online service ended in 2021 and an offline story mode followed.
• Kingdom Hearts Dark Road (2020): a story about young Xehanort, played inside the Union χ app and later completed in offline form.

Per fan reporting, Union χ and Dark Road were later pulled from app stores entirely. A sixth mobile game, Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, was announced in 2022 but Square Enix cancelled it in May 2025, saying it could not make an experience players would be satisfied with over a long period. Parts of the mobile story are retold in the Back Cover film and picked up in Kingdom Hearts III.

Which Games Are Playable Today and Where

Almost everything above lives in three bundles, all from Square Enix:

• Kingdom Hearts -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-: Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, Re:Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, Birth by Sleep Final Mix, plus movie versions of 358/2 Days and Re:coded.
• Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue: Dream Drop Distance HD, 0.2 Birth by Sleep and the χ Back Cover film.
• Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind (DLC).

These are on PS4 (playable on PS5 through backward compatibility), Xbox, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. The Nintendo Switch versions were cloud-streamed; Square Enix stopped selling them on June 9, 2026, and says that cloud service ends on June 9, 2027.

The newest way in is the Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III], which bundles all three and launches October 8, 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through the Microsoft Store, running natively rather than over the cloud. Per Square Enix, owners of the digital versions on Switch (Cloud), PS4 or Xbox One get 50% off the new versions.

Two things the collections leave out: 358/2 Days and Re:coded are included only as cutscene movies, not playable games, and Melody of Memory is sold separately. The original 2004 Game Boy Advance Chain of Memories also isn’t included, since the collections carry the remake instead.

Kingdom Hearts IV and What Comes Next

Kingdom Hearts IV is announced but not released. Square Enix confirmed at D23 in August 2026 that it will launch in late 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and it already has a Steam wishlist page. Per the publisher, the series has shipped more than 39 million units worldwide.

Sora has also turned up outside the series, most recently in the Kingdom Hearts crossover with Fortnite. Guest spots like that are not counted here.
