Persona 4: How to Get a Job

To get a job in Persona 4 Golden, go to the bulletin board in the north half of the Central Shopping District and apply; job openings appear there from April 23. Some jobs are open to anyone, while others need a social stat rank before the board lets you sign up. Below we list every part-time job, its requirements, when it runs, what it raises, and which Social Links it starts, plus the changes from the original PS2 release.

Which Version This Covers

This guide is for Persona 4 Golden, the version Atlus sells today on PC (Steam), PlayStation 4 (playable on PS5 through backward compatibility), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. The six jobs from the 2008 PS2 original all return in Golden, and Golden adds a seventh, the dishwasher job at Shiroku Pub. Stat requirements, days and pay below come from the community wiki and match what player guides describe.

How to Apply for a Job

  1. Wait until April 23. The board has nothing to offer before then.
  2. Go to Shopping District North during free time and examine the bulletin board to see the openings.
  3. Pick a job. If you meet its requirement, you are signed up. If you are short on the stat it asks for, the game will not sign you up.
  4. Work it. Jobs done at home use the work table in your room. Jobs outside the house start from the bus stop in the shopping district on the right days and times.

Every shift uses up that time slot, the same as hanging out with a Social Link, so jobs compete with everything else on your calendar.

Every Part-Time Job in Persona 4 Golden

Job Requirement When Raises Social Link
Envelope Constructor None Any day, at home Diligence None
Origami Crane Folder Diligence Rank 2 (Persistent) Any day, at home Understanding None
Translator See note below Any day, at home Expression None
Assistant Day Care Caretaker None Monday, Friday, Saturday daytime (not rainy days) Understanding Temperance (Eri Minami)
Hospital Janitor Diligence Rank 3 (Strong) Wednesday, Thursday, Friday evenings Courage Devil (Sayoko Uehara)
Tutor Understanding Rank 5 (Saintly) Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday evenings Knowledge and Expression Tower (Shu Nakajima)
Pub Dishwasher (Golden only) None listed Nights, at Shiroku Pub Diligence, plus others None

The Home Jobs

Envelope Constructor is the job you can take on day one of the board. It pays a modest amount per session, more as your Diligence rises, and it is the easiest early way to build Diligence toward the hospital job.

Origami Crane Folder is volunteer work: it pays nothing, but it raises Understanding. It needs Persistent Diligence to sign up.

Translator raises Expression and pays a little more per session as your Expression rank goes up. The community wiki lists no stat requirement for it, while some player guides say it needs a Knowledge rank first, so if the board refuses you, study for a few nights and try again.

The Jobs Outside the House

Assistant Day Care Caretaker pays the best of the early jobs and starts the Temperance Social Link with Eri Minami. It only runs on Monday, Friday and Saturday days, and not when it rains.

Hospital Janitor runs on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings at Inaba Municipal Hospital. It needs Strong Diligence, raises Courage, and starts the Devil Social Link with Sayoko Uehara. The community wiki notes that progressing Sayoko’s link also leads to Hisano Kuroda’s link. It is the core of our guide on how to increase Courage in Persona 4.

Tutor pays by far the most per shift and raises Knowledge and Expression, but it has the steepest requirement: Saintly Understanding, the maximum rank. It starts the Tower Social Link with Shu Nakajima. Per the community wiki, once Shu’s link is maxed the tutor job closes.

The Shiroku Pub Dishwasher (Golden Only)

Golden turns the Shiroku Store into the Shiroku Pub at night, and you can wash dishes there. It raises Diligence, and depending on which customer you talk to, it can also raise Courage, Understanding, Expression or Knowledge. Pay rises when more customers are in the pub. The same pub is where you trade for the Fishhook in our guide on how to get a fishing rod in Persona 4.

Why Jobs Matter More in Golden

In Golden, an evening job has a side benefit: signing up for a job with evening hours lets you leave the Dojima house on nights when Dojima is home, which the original did not allow. That opens more nights for the pub, the shrine and evening hangouts with Social Links.

A simple order that works for most players:

  1. Take envelopes early for Diligence and a little money.
  2. Once Diligence hits Persistent, add origami on dead evenings for Understanding.
  3. At Strong Diligence, start the hospital job for Courage and the Devil link.
  4. Work the day care on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays when you have nothing else planned.
  5. Push Understanding to Saintly and switch your spare evenings to tutoring for the money.

How the Original PS2 Persona 4 Differs

The 2008 PS2 release has the same bulletin board and the same six jobs: envelopes, origami, translation, day care, hospital and tutoring. It does not have the Shiroku Pub dishwasher, and taking an evening job does not unlock night outings the way it does in Golden. Social Link rewards were also rebalanced for Golden, so double-check details in-game if you are on the PS2 disc.

If you are revisiting the original, it is on our list of the best PS2 games of all time. A full remake is also coming; see our Persona 4 Revival release date news for what is confirmed.
