In The Sims 2, babies don’t stay tiny forever. After a few days, they’ll naturally grow into toddlers. But if you’re ready to speed things up (or want to throw a birthday party), there are a few easy ways to age up a baby manually. This guide will walk you through all the methods.
How Long Until a Baby Ages Up Naturally?
By default, a baby in The Sims 2 will age up into a toddler after 3 in-game days. You’ll know they’re about to grow up when:
- A sparkle effect appears on their birthday
- A cutscene plays (unless turned off in settings)
- A notification appears saying it’s their birthday
But you don’t have to wait—there are ways to age them up early.
How to Manually Age Up a Baby
Method 1: Use the Birthday Cake
- Go into Buy Mode and purchase a birthday cake (found under Party or Miscellaneous > All).
- Place the cake on a counter or table.
- Have a teen, adult, or elder Sim click on the cake and choose “Help [Baby’s Name] Grow Up.”
- The selected Sim will carry the baby to the cake and trigger an age-up event.
This method is great for players who want to celebrate milestones or control timing.
Method 2: Let It Happen Automatically
If you don’t interfere, the game will automatically age the baby up at the end of their 3-day life stage. A Sim may walk over, pick them up, and help them age up.
Method 3: Use Cheats (Advanced)
If you want to age up a baby instantly:
- Open the cheat console with
Ctrl + Shift + C - Type: nginxCopyEdit
boolProp testingCheatsEnabled true - Shift+Click the baby and choose “Trigger Age Transition”
This will instantly age up the baby to a toddler. Be sure to disable the cheat after:
nginxCopyEditboolProp testingCheatsEnabled false
Bonus: Keep an Eye on Needs
Before aging up your baby, try to keep their mood high. Babies with higher needs tend to transition into toddlers with slightly better aspiration meters and a smoother life start.
