Sims 2: How to Go to University

In The Sims 2: University expansion pack, your teenage Sims can apply to college, attend university, and earn degrees that open the door to better careers and higher pay. If you’re ready to send your Sims off to campus life, here’s everything you need to know to get started.

How to Send a Sim to University

To go to university, you’ll need the University expansion pack installed. Only Teen Sims and Young Adults are eligible for college.

Step 1: Meet the Requirements

Your Sim must be a Teen in high school with a decent academic standing. While Sims with poor grades can still get into college, those with better performance will have an easier time.

Optional bonuses:

  • High aspiration levels
  • Scholarships (see below)

Step 2: Apply for Scholarships (Optional but Helpful)

Before enrolling, your teen can apply for scholarships to help fund their education.

  • Use the phone or computer to select “College > Apply for Scholarships”
  • You’ll get a list of scholarships your Sim qualifies for, based on things like:
    • Skills (e.g. Cooking, Logic, Creativity)
    • Grades
    • Extracurriculars
    • Odd traits (like being an alien!)

You’ll be notified immediately of any awards received.

Step 3: Apply to College

Once your teen is ready, use the phone or computer and choose “College > Go to College.”

You can:

  • Send them alone (they’ll immediately leave the household)
  • Or choose to age them up and move them with other Sims into a college lot

Your Sim will be placed in a dormitory or residential lot in a University sub-neighborhood.

What Happens at University?

Once at college, your Sim becomes a Young Adult and will go through four years (Freshman to Senior), each divided into two semesters.

Key activities include:

  • Attending class and completing assignments
  • Joining social groups or Greek houses
  • Throwing parties and building relationships
  • Earning lifetime aspiration points and skills

They’ll need to keep up their GPA to graduate and unlock high-level careers after college.

Returning to the Main Neighborhood

Once your Sim graduates, they return home and become an Adult. They’ll bring back any scholarships, skills, and degrees they earned, giving them a leg up in life.
