AION 2: Best Class to Pick

For most new players, the Gladiator is the safest first class in AION 2: NC describes it as a greatsword fighter with high attack and high defense that can double as a sub-tank, which makes it forgiving when nobody is healing you. Past that, pick by role: Templar if you want to tank, Cleric if you want to heal, Assassin or Ranger if you want to hunt other players, and Sorcerer or Spiritmaster if you would rather cast.

Below we match the eight launch classes to solo play, group PvE, PvP and healing, using NC’s official class descriptions as the base. Community tier lists come up too, but we label them as opinions, because almost all of them are built on the Korean and Taiwanese version that launched in November 2025, and the global PC version opening on September 30 (Founder’s Packs) and October 5 (everyone) may be tuned differently. For a plain rundown of every class’s weapon and kit, start with our AION 2 classes guide.

Best Class for Solo Play

Gladiator. NC’s Korean guidebook calls it the core melee class, with high attack and defense at the same time, and says its health and defensive tools let it act as a sub-tank. Alone, that means you can take hits and keep dealing damage without a healer behind you. Third-party tier lists built on the Korean servers most often name it the easiest solo class, and NC’s own description supports that reading.

Spiritmaster. Per NC, the Spiritmaster fights indirectly, summoning elemental spirits and wearing enemies down with damage over time and status effects. A summoner that keeps a pet between itself and the enemy is a natural fit for solo content, though NC also calls it a “strategic” caster, which usually means more to manage.

Who struggles solo. The Templar trades damage for protection, and the Cleric’s kit is built around keeping others alive, so both clear solo content slower. The Sorcerer hits hard, but NC warns it has low defense and low health and must keep its distance.

NC’s Steam page counts solo challenges among the game’s more than 200 dungeons. Our AION 2 solo guide covers how far you can get without a group.

Best Class for PvE Groups

Groups need a tank and a healer, and only two classes do those jobs full time: the Templar, which NC calls the classic tank, and the Cleric, its classic healer. If you want to be in demand for 5-player parties and 10-player dungeons, those two are the safe bets. NC’s Early Access notice says dungeon party matching pulls from every Early Access server in your region, and at launch the pool widens to include the launch servers too.

For damage, it comes down to taste: melee (Gladiator, Assassin), ranged (Ranger) or magic (Sorcerer, Spiritmaster). Tier lists on the Korean version frequently rank the Spiritmaster near the top for PvE damage, but that is a snapshot of one region’s balance, not a promise for the global build.

Best Class for PvP

AION 2’s PvP centers on the faction war: Elyos and Asmodians live on separate servers and meet in the Abyss. Per NC, during Early Access the Abyss matches Early Access servers only, and after launch servers are paired by how far along and how strong they are.

  • Assassin. NC describes stealth approaches, fast dual-dagger combos, and poison and stun effects. Tier lists most often put it at or near the top for PvP, with the caveat that it rewards precise timing.
  • Ranger. Bow damage at range, with NC stressing positioning and timing. Tier lists commonly pair it with the Assassin as a top PvP pick.
  • Sorcerer. Big burst from range, but fragile by NC’s own description.
  • Chanter. Buffs, crowd control and secondary healing. On paper, that toolkit matters more in group fights than in duels.

Best Healer: Cleric or Chanter

Pick the Cleric if you want to be the main healer. NC calls it the typical healer class, with a wide range of recovery skills to keep a party alive.

Pick the Chanter if you want to do a bit of everything. It specializes in mantras that raise the whole group’s stats, and NC says it can also control enemies, heal as a backup and deal damage. It will not out-heal a Cleric, but it has more to do when nobody needs healing.

Why No Tier List Should Decide It for You

The Korean version has been rebalanced constantly since launch, and the global build will likely get its own tuning. One example: NC’s August 26 update notes for Korea raised PvE damage on the Gladiator’s and Assassin’s core combo attacks by 20 percent, reworked Templar damage, and in the same patch cut life drain on key skills for the Gladiator, Templar, Assassin and Chanter, which NC judged excessive in both PvE and PvP. A tier list written before that patch was already wrong after it.

Three facts make the choice lower stakes than it looks:

  1. You can roll alts. The Korean guidebook lists up to eight character slots.
  2. Membership covers the server, not one character. NC’s membership notice says benefits apply to every character on the server where you bought it.
  3. Your faction does not change your power. NC’s Korean guidebook says Elyos and Asmodians differ in story and territory, not ability.

If you still land on the wrong class, see our guide to changing class and server, and our Combat Power guide explains how the game rates your character once you commit. Everything else is on the AION 2 hub.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the easiest AION 2 class for beginners? The Gladiator is the most forgiving by NC’s own description: a melee damage dealer with high attack and defense that can also sub-tank. Most third-party tier lists agree.

What is the best AION 2 class for solo play? The Gladiator for durability, or the Spiritmaster if you prefer letting summoned spirits and damage over time do the work. Pure support classes like the Cleric clear solo content slower.

Which AION 2 class is best for PvP? Tier lists based on the Korean version most often name the Assassin and the Ranger. Treat that as opinion, since balance changes often and the global version may be tuned differently.

Is the Cleric or the Chanter the better healer? Play the Cleric to be a group’s main healer. Play the Chanter if you want buffs, crowd control and backup healing with some damage of your own.

Does the best class change after launch? Almost certainly. NC has adjusted class damage and survivability repeatedly in the Korean version, so any ranking is a snapshot of one patch.
