No: Grand Theft Auto VI is only coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. PlayStation’s official FAQ says it “will only be playable on PlayStation 5 consoles. It will not be available for PlayStation 4 consoles”, there’s no Xbox One version, and no Switch 2 version has been announced.
If you’re on a last-generation console, you’ll need to upgrade to play it on November 19, 2026. Here is exactly which machines work.
Which Consoles Can Play GTA 6
- PlayStation 5 (standard and Digital Edition).
- PlayStation 5 Pro, where the PlayStation Store tags it “PS5 Pro Enhanced”.
- Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, where the Microsoft Store says “Optimized for Xbox Series X|S”.

PS4
PlayStation’s GTA VI FAQ is explicit: “Grand Theft Auto VI will only be playable on PlayStation 5 consoles. It will not be available for PlayStation 4 consoles.” There’s no PS4 version to buy, and PS4 owners can’t pre-order it for later play on a PS4.
Xbox One
There’s no Xbox One version. The Microsoft Store only sells GTA 6 for Xbox Series X|S, and there’s no cloud version either, since it isn’t on Game Pass; our Game Pass and PS Plus guide explains.
Switch 2
Rockstar hasn’t announced a Switch 2 version. Rumors about a port come from outside Rockstar, so don’t buy a Switch 2 expecting GTA 6.
“Plays Best on PS5” Doesn’t Mean Exclusive
Sony and Rockstar’s marketing tagline is that GTA 6 “plays best on PlayStation 5”, announced on the PlayStation Blog. That’s a marketing partnership, not an exclusive: the game launches on Xbox Series X|S the same day. On PS5, Sony highlights DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers, the controller speaker, Tempest 3D Audio and fast SSD loading.
Do You Need a PS5 Pro or Series X?
No. A standard PS5 or an Xbox Series S will run it. Rockstar hasn’t announced resolutions, frame rates or graphics modes for any console yet, so there’s no official answer to how each one performs. The “PS5 Pro Enhanced” tag only tells you the Pro gets some improvements; Rockstar hasn’t said what they are.
Buying a Console for GTA 6
