Stellar Blade Switch 2: Is It Censored? Answered

No, not in any way that touches EVE’s outfits: SHIFT UP CEO and director Kim Hyung-tae said at Tokyo Game Show 2026 that the Switch 2 version has no censorship and no changes to costumes. The one change he described is to gore, where the blood on one character’s severed arm is drawn slightly darker and more mechanical, and he said nobody forced the studio to make it.

The Switch 2 version’s ESRB rating backs that up: it carries the same Mature rating, the same content descriptors and the same rating summary as the PS5 and PC versions. Below we go through exactly what SHIFT UP said, what the rating boards and Nintendo’s listing show, why the question keeps coming up, and what we still cannot confirm. Everything here is drawn from official statements and listings, rechecked on November 5, 2026, the day Stellar Blade Complete Edition launched on Switch 2.

What SHIFT UP Said

Kim, who leads both SHIFT UP and the game, gave two interviews about the Switch 2 port at Tokyo Game Show in September 2026.

To Gamemeca (published September 20): “There is no censorship or modification to costumes either, so you can rest easy and play just like before.” He described the only visual change as “the blood color on a severed arm being rendered slightly darker and more mechanical.”

To Inven Global (published September 19): “There are no modifications to outfits either. You can play without worry.” On the gore change, he said that “due to concerns regarding certain dismemberment depictions, we slightly enhanced the mechanical feel of some severed cross-sections,” that it applies to “a specific character,” and that “This was not forcibly requested by anyone.”

Those are interviews given to Korean outlets and translated into English, so the exact wording may differ slightly from Kim’s original Korean, but both outlets report the same substance.

What the ESRB Rating Shows

The ESRB rated the Switch 2 version separately, under SHIFT UP Corporation as publisher. The Switch 2 entry is rated M for Mature 17+ for Blood and Gore, Language, Suggestive Themes and Violence, the same descriptors as the PS5 and PC entry.

The rating summaries match word for word, including the line about costumes: “The game depicts some female characters in revealing costumes (e.g., deep cleavage; skintight, flesh-toned body suits), with breasts that jiggle during combat.” Both also describe the same dismemberment and decapitation in cutscenes.

One small difference: the PS5 and PC entry also flags In-Game Purchases, and the Switch 2 entry does not. That flag covers paid add-ons rather than anything on screen, and the Switch 2 release is the Complete Edition with its DLC already included.

Nintendo’s store listing shows the same Mature rating and the same four descriptors.

What Comes in the Switch 2 Version

The Switch 2 release is the full Complete Edition, not a trimmed port. SHIFT UP says it includes all previously released content, including the NieR:Automata and GODDESS OF VICTORY: NIKKE collaboration DLC and the Complete Edition bonus outfits, plus pre-order cosmetics for early buyers. The free Bayonetta collaboration outfits also arrived on Switch 2 the same day as on PS5 and PC, as our Bayonetta outfits guide covers.

The port does have technical compromises, such as lower resolution and frame generation, which are covered in our Switch 2 performance guide. Those are visual fidelity trade-offs, not content cuts.

Why People Keep Asking

Stellar Blade has a history with this question. When it launched on PS5 in April 2024, a launch-week patch changed details on a few of EVE’s outfits, and some fans called it censorship. Kim said at the time that the patched designs were the final costumes the team wanted to show, and SHIFT UP framed the changes as its own design decisions.

Ports to Nintendo hardware also tend to raise the question, since some publishers do adjust content for different platforms. In this case, the studio head has answered it directly for the Switch 2 version.

What We Cannot Confirm Yet

  • An outfit-by-outfit list. SHIFT UP has not published one for the Switch 2 version, so Kim’s statements remain the official word as of launch day.
  • Regional differences. SHIFT UP has not announced any region-specific changes for the Switch 2 version, and we have not seen any reported.
  • Later patches. As on PS5, content can change in updates after launch.

Whether the boxed copy holds the full game is covered in our game-key card guide.
