WoW: Forever Reworks Racials for Every Race, and Weapon Specializations Are Gone

Horde and Alliance heroes, including a tauren and a dwarf, look out over a valley in official World of Warcraft: Forever art

Blizzard changed racial abilities for every race in the World of Warcraft: Forever beta on October 15, 2026, replacing the Human, Dwarf and Orc weapon specializations with critical strike bonuses. The changes are in community manager Kaivax’s October 15 beta development notes on the official forums, alongside class tuning and a new-player tutorial.

The Details

The headline change hits the three races whose passives were tied to a weapon type:

  • Human: Sword Specialization is replaced with Ruthless, 2% increased critical strike chance.
  • Orc: Axe Specialization is replaced with Savage, 1% increased critical strike chance. Blood Fury’s cooldown rises to 3 minutes (was 2), and Shatter Curse now dispels Curses and Banes instead of granting immunity, with its magic damage reduction cut to 5% (was 15%).
  • Dwarf: Mace Specialization is replaced with Earth Fury, 2% increased critical damage and healing.

Every other race changed too:

  • Tauren: Endurance now grants 2% increased critical damage and healing (was 1% hit chance). Plainsrunning adds 3% mounted speed, but “stutter-stepping is no longer sufficient” to keep it. Cultivation drops to a 15-minute cooldown (was 60) and War Stomp to 90 seconds.
  • Skyborne: Wind Blessed’s Haste bonus triples to 3% (was 1%), Skysight and Read Leyline can now be cast while moving, and Walk on Air drops to a 90-second cooldown.
  • Troll: Regeneration’s health regeneration bonuses double to 20%.
  • Undead: Touch of the Dead now procs 30% of the time for casters and 20% for Paladins, Rogues and Warriors, with a 25-second internal cooldown.
  • Gnome: Eureka! becomes an 8-second buff with no charges, and now also benefits Power Word: Shield.
  • Night Elf: Quickness now stacks with other movement speed increases.

What This Means for Players

As written in the notes, Ruthless, Savage and Earth Fury name no weapon type, so a Human, Orc or Dwarf no longer gives up a passive by equipping whatever drops. The Skyborne come out well ahead: tripled Haste, plus actives you can now use on the move, which speaks to a common complaint from beta players on the official forums that Skysight and Read Leyline were hard to use mid-fight.

Orcs lose a little: a longer Blood Fury cooldown and the smallest new crit passive. All of it is beta tuning that can still change before launch. Try the new kits during the open stress test that needs no subscription, and our guide to how long the WoW Forever beta is has the remaining dates. Race is only one launch decision, so also read which WoW: Forever ruleset to choose before launch, and find the rest on our World of Warcraft hub.

When and Where

The changes are live in the beta now, on PC and Mac. Blizzard calls October 21 the last full day of beta testing, and the full game launches November 4, 2026.
