Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, but not on launch day, and it is not on Xbox Game Pass. It launches on October 14, 2026 on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and developer Auroch Digital says the Switch 2 version follows “shortly after,” with no date yet. No version for the original Switch has been announced.
Below we cover what Auroch and publisher Big Fan Games have actually said about the Switch 2 version, why Game Pass and PS Plus subscribers still have to buy it, and the cheapest way to play it at launch if you were waiting for a subscription. Everything is from Auroch’s official FAQ and posts, the publisher’s press release and the store listings, checked on October 13.
Is Boltgun 2 on Nintendo Switch?
Only on Switch 2, and only later. Auroch’s official FAQ says “a Nintendo Switch 2 version is also confirmed to launch shortly after the other platforms.” The August 26 press release from Auroch and Big Fan that set the October 14 date describes the Switch 2 version as “confirmed for later this year.”
Here is where that leaves things as of October 13:
- No release date. Neither Auroch nor Big Fan has named a day for the Switch 2 version. “Later this year” points to a launch before the end of 2026, but that is all the official sources commit to.
- No eShop listing. Boltgun 2 does not appear on Nintendo’s US eShop yet, so there is nothing to pre-order or wishlist there.
- No price. Nobody has announced a Switch 2 price. Every other store charges $24.99, but we would not assume the Switch 2 version matches until Nintendo’s listing goes up.
- No original Switch version. Every official announcement names the Switch 2 alone. Owners of the first Switch have no announced way to play Boltgun 2.
- No physical edition. Auroch’s FAQ says Boltgun 2 is a digital-only release with no physical version planned at the moment, and it makes no exception for Switch 2.
That is a change from the first game. The original Boltgun did launch on Switch alongside the other consoles, and it is still sold on the Nintendo eShop. If you want a Warhammer 40,000 boomer shooter on a Nintendo console right now, that is the one available.

Is Boltgun 2 on Xbox Game Pass?
No. Boltgun 2 is a standard paid release on Xbox. The Microsoft Store listing sells it as a $24.99 pre-order with no Game Pass label, and Microsoft’s own Game Pass catalog, which lists every console and PC game in the subscription plus the titles marked as coming soon, does not include it as of October 13. Neither Auroch nor Big Fan has announced a Game Pass deal.
Two more details from the listings are worth knowing:
- The Xbox version is console-only. Microsoft’s listing covers Xbox Series X|S, not Windows, and Auroch’s FAQ sends PC players to Steam. There is no Microsoft Store PC version that PC Game Pass could include.
- The first game was never on it either. The original Boltgun is not in the Game Pass catalog today.
The upside of buying on Xbox: the listing says Boltgun 2 is Optimized for Xbox Series X|S, with 60 FPS and 120 FPS support on Xbox, and it is about a 9.2 GB download. Xbox One owners are out of luck, since the listing is for the current-generation consoles only.
Is Boltgun 2 on PlayStation Plus?
No. Boltgun 2 is not part of the PlayStation Plus game catalog. The only PlayStation Plus perk is a discount: members get 10% off the pre-order on the PlayStation Store, which brings it from $24.99 to $22.49 until the game unlocks.
The Cheapest Way to Play Boltgun 2 at Launch
Since no subscription includes it, the question becomes where to buy. Our Boltgun 2 release time guide has the full price table and unlock times, but in short:
- Steam: $24.99, or $22.49 for everyone while the pre-purchase discount runs until launch. Owners of the first Boltgun on Steam can get Boltgun 2 for even less through the Boltgun + Boltgun 2 bundle, which charges only for the game you are missing.
- PS5: $24.99, or $22.49 with PlayStation Plus until launch.
- Xbox Series X|S: $24.99, with no pre-order discount listed.
If a handheld is the reason you were waiting for Switch 2, Steam is worth a look. Auroch announced on October 8 that Valve has rated Boltgun 2 Steam Deck Verified.
You can also try before you buy, but only on PC. The free demo on the Steam store page has been live since May 21 and is a Steam exclusive, so there is no demo on PS5, Xbox or Switch 2. It includes two levels from the full game and lets you play as either hero, Ultramarine Malum Caedo or Sister of Battle Nyra Veyrath.
Boltgun 2 is one of the launches in our biggest games of October 2026 list, and if you want more Warhammer 40,000 on Xbox or PS5 while you wait for a Switch 2 date, our Space Marine 2 guides cover the other big 40K shooter.
