Fable 2: How to Get to Bloodstone

Villagers gathered in a snowy Fable II town street at night, lit by lanterns beside timber-framed buildings

You get to Bloodstone in Fable II through the main story: during The Hero of Skill chapter, Garth’s Cullis Gate at Brightwood Tower sends you into Wraithmarsh, and you cross that swamp on foot to reach the pirate town. Before that point there is no way in, and afterwards you can fast travel there or sail between Bloodstone and Westcliff.

This guide covers where Bloodstone sits on the map, the story steps that unlock it, what to expect on the trip through Wraithmarsh, the ways back once it is open, and what to do when you arrive. It covers Lionhead’s original 2008 Fable II, which is identical on Xbox 360, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S through backward compatibility. Mild story spoilers follow for the middle of the game.

Where Bloodstone is

Bloodstone is a pirate port on Albion’s southern coast. Per the community wiki, it is surrounded by Wraithmarsh “on the north, east, and west, and the ocean on the south,” which is why you cannot simply walk there from the rest of Albion. The roads through Wraithmarsh have all but vanished, leaving the town cut off except by sea. Its unofficial ruler is Reaver, the Hero of Skill, and the story sends you there to recruit him.

Step by step: the story route to Bloodstone

Per the community wiki’s walkthrough of the main quest:

  1. Finish The Hero of Will. You recruit Garth, the mage, which ends with the events at the Spire. Garth is the key, because he built a Cullis Gate (a teleport gate) at his tower.
  2. Start The Hero of Skill. Back in the Chamber of Fate, Hammer arrives with news that the third Hero is Reaver, the pirate who runs Bloodstone. Since Bloodstone is surrounded by Wraithmarsh and sea, the only option is the Cullis Gate at Brightwood Tower.
  3. Use the Cullis Gate. It malfunctions and drops you and your dog in Wraithmarsh. This part is called Stranded.
  4. Escape and cross Wraithmarsh. You wake up in a cage, break out and make your way across the swamp to Bloodstone.
  5. Arrive in Bloodstone and find Reaver at his mansion on the hill.

The official manual describes the Glowing Trail, a line of light on the ground that directs you to your current objective; you can dim it or turn it off in the Pause menu if you would rather explore, but it is worth keeping on for this stretch.

Surviving Wraithmarsh on the way in

The community wiki flags an important rule for Stranded: you must complete it “without leaving the area”; leaving before you are finished means restarting it from the beginning. Treat the crossing as one continuous run.

Wraithmarsh is the old site of Oakvale, and the wiki lists Banshees and Hollow Men as its main threats, with a Balverine and a Troll also appearing. You pass the Drowned Farm, where a Banshee must be beaten before you can move on, and then cross the famous Oakvale Bridge. Stock up on health potions and food before you step through the Cullis Gate, since you will not be able to shop until Bloodstone. The manual notes that your dog barks when he senses treasure, so keep an ear out for chests along the way.

How to get back to Bloodstone later

Once Stranded is done, Bloodstone and Wraithmarsh stay open, and there are two easy ways back:

  • Fast travel. The manual says you can fast travel “to any map location you’ve previously visited.” Press Start, choose Quests/Maps, and select Bloodstone. Fast travel passes in-game time, per the manual: “the journey still takes hours or days in the game world.”
  • By ship. Per the community wiki, a ship in Bloodstone harbour gives passage back to Westcliff and the north.

You can also walk back in through Wraithmarsh, but the Cullis Gate at Brightwood Tower does not work in reverse, per the wiki, so it is not a return route.

What to do when you arrive

Reaver will not help straight away. Per the community wiki, he asks for more renown first: 20,000, the Luminary level. Once you have it, he sends you to return the Dark Seal to the Shadow Court in Wraithmarsh, which leads into the Bloodstone Assault.

Bloodstone also has plenty to do on the side. The wiki lists shops including an augment shop, food stalls and a gift stall on the waterfront, jobs as a bartender, blacksmith and with the Assassination Society, and a local version of Keystone. It also notes that many homes cannot be bought until you finish the T.O.B.Y. quest. If Bloodstone’s vices drag your Hero toward corruption, donating to the Temple of Light back in Oakfield is the simplest counterweight, and your dog’s treasure sense pays off in the town’s chests and dig spots, especially once you have taught him a few tricks and trained him with books.

This guide is about Fable II’s Bloodstone. The upcoming Fable reboot from Playground Games is a separate game, and our Fable release date guide covers what is confirmed about it.
