Blaze Arts are signature moves exclusive to the heroes in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. They cost HP to use and fill a Blaze Gauge, and the crucial thing to understand is that filling that gauge is bad for you. The sweet spot is halfway.
The Gauge Cuts Both Ways
Per Nintendo’s own description of the system:
At the halfway mark, the gauge grants bonuses, meaning stat buffs for the remainder of that battle. This is what you are aiming for.
At full, the gauge triggers “Burst,” which removes all of those bonuses and halves the unit’s maximum HP for the rest of that battle.
So a hero who keeps spamming Blaze Arts trades a strong buff for a crippled unit. The penalty is scoped to that battle rather than carrying across your file, but losing half your max HP on a lord mid-map is how runs go wrong, especially in Classic mode where a fallen unit is gone for good. Our permadeath guide covers those stakes.
Using Them
Blaze Arts are activated manually on the unit’s turn from a menu, and they require enough HP to pay the cost and a valid target in range.
They cannot be used on a counterattack. That is worth planning around: you cannot rely on a Blaze Art triggering defensively during the enemy phase, so the HP you spend is always spent on your own terms.
There are also reports that Blaze Arts cannot be used in Clashes, the dungeon combat mode covered in our Matches and Clashes guide. That comes from a single source, so treat it as likely rather than settled, and check before building a dungeon plan around a hero’s Blaze Art.
Who Gets Them
Only the heroes and Eshmel. That exclusivity is the strongest argument for the five main characters being reliably good units, as our best units guide covers.
Each hero’s Blaze Arts suit their role. Nintendo’s own material describes Cai’s flame burst, Dietrich’s warping cloak, and Leda’s buffing and summoning abilities. Community documentation lists specific names for each, including several support-oriented options for Leda obtained through quests, though Nintendo has not published those names itself.
How to Actually Play It
Treat the Blaze Gauge like a resource with a ceiling rather than a meter to max out. Push to halfway for the buff, then stop unless you genuinely need the damage more than you need the unit intact for the rest of the map.
The HP cost also means Blaze Arts are safest on a hero who is not currently the one absorbing hits.
