Xbox confirmed on September 17, 2026 that Gears of War: E-Day has gone gold, meaning the prequel is finished and locked for manufacturing. The announcement also set the pre-install window and confirmed the game arrives on Game Pass immediately.
The Details
E-Day launches worldwide on October 6, 2026 at 8am Pacific. Premium Edition buyers get in earlier, with early access starting October 1. Pre-install opens September 29 at 8am Pacific (15:00 UTC), so the download can be sitting on your drive a week before launch.
It is available day one with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, and releases on Xbox Series X and S, Xbox on PC, and Steam. The Standard Edition is $69.99 and the Premium Edition is $99.99, with the latter carrying that five-day head start.
Xbox also published the final PC specifications, presented as a specs image rather than text, and noted that the team “continued to iterate and improve PC stability and performance” through the run-up to gold. Gears games have historically been among the better-optimized Xbox PC ports, and a Steam release alongside the Microsoft Store versions gives PC players a choice the series has not always offered.
Going gold roughly three weeks before launch is a comfortable margin, and it means any remaining work lands as a day-one patch rather than a delay.
