There are 100 rival gang tags scattered across Los Santos in GTA San Andreas, and you clear each one by standing in front of it on foot with a Spray Can and painting a Grove Street Families tag over the top. They become available as soon as you gain control of CJ in the opening mission, so this is something you can chip away at from the very start.
Getting a Spray Can
You cannot tag anything without the can, and it is not sold in shops. It spawns in a small number of fixed locations:
- Inside the Johnson House, and on its roof.
- At a house in Las Colinas.
- At the Sobell Rail Yards in Las Venturas.
The Johnson House spawns are the practical ones, since that is your base for the whole Los Santos section of the game.
How Much Spray Each Tag Costs
A single tag needs at least 29 units of spray to cover completely. That is the detail that trips people up: walking away from a half-painted tag does not count it, and you will have to come back and finish the job.
Keep an eye on your can while you work. Running dry halfway through a tag on the far side of the map is the most annoying way to lose a trip.
Spraying a Tag
Approach the tag on foot, equip the spray can, and hold the fire button while aiming at the marking. CJ paints over it, and the tag registers once the cover is complete.
Tags are only in Los Santos. Once you leave the city for the rest of San Andreas, there are no more to find, which means this collectible is fully completable in the first act if you want it out of the way.
What You Get for All 100
The reward is genuinely useful rather than cosmetic. Finishing all 100 tags puts weapon spawns in the Johnson House kitchen, including Molotov cocktails, a Tec-9, a sawed-off shotgun and an AK47, which turns your home into a free resupply point for the rest of the game.
