Kingdom Hearts 2: How to Level Up Your Limit Form

Limit Form in Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix gains one point of experience every time you use the finishing move of a Limit, whether or not that finisher hits anything. So the way to level it is to spam its cheapest Limit, Sonic Rave, and always carry it through to its finisher, refilling MP and your Drive Gauge between runs.

The rest of this guide explains where Limit Form comes from, exactly what counts as experience, the most efficient training loop, the best places to do it, and what each level gives you.

Which Version Has Limit Form

Limit Form only exists in Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix. It is not in the original 2005 PS2 release of Kingdom Hearts II, which has Valor, Wisdom, Master and Final Forms (plus Antiform) but no Limit Form.

Final Mix is the version included in KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-, the current way to play on PS4 (playable on PS5), Xbox One, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. The Nintendo Switch cloud version was pulled from sale on June 9, 2026, per Square Enix, and stays playable for existing owners until June 9, 2027. On October 8, 2026, Square Enix releases the Kingdom Hearts Collection I~III, which includes these same games running natively on Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through the Microsoft Store, and Switch cloud owners can transfer their saves to the Switch 2 version. If you are playing any of those, you have Limit Form.

Per the community wiki, Sora gets Limit Form along with the Oathkeeper Keyblade at the end of the second visit to Twilight Town. It costs four Drive bars and uses neither Donald nor Goofy, which the community wiki points out makes it especially useful in solo fights where your party is not with you.

What Actually Gives Limit Form Experience

The other Drive Forms level up from things like landing hits, defeating enemies or collecting orbs. Limit Form is different. Per the community wiki, it gains one experience point each time the finish command of a Limit is used, and it counts even if the finisher misses.

In Limit Form, the Magic slot in your command menu is replaced by four Limits, each with its own finisher:

  • Sonic Rave (60 MP), finisher: Finish
  • Strike Raid (65 MP), finisher: Judgment
  • Last Arcanum (75 MP), finisher: The End
  • Infinity (80 MP), used after an aerial combo, finisher: Giga Impact

Each Limit is a short chain: select it from the menu, then press Triangle on PlayStation (Y on an Xbox-layout pad) at the prompts to keep it going until the finisher comes out. If you stop early, you do not get the experience point. Because Sonic Rave is the cheapest, it gives the most finishers per bar of MP.

The Fastest Training Loop

The loop the community wiki recommends goes like this:

  1. Stack Form Boost. Equip as many Form Boost abilities as you have, and use the Oathkeeper, which carries Form Boost. This makes each trip into Limit Form last longer.
  2. Enter Limit Form from the Drive command on the command menu.
  3. Spam Sonic Rave until your MP runs out, finishing every one.
  4. Refill. Walk to a nearby Save Point to restore MP, and keep going until the Drive Gauge is nearly empty.
  5. Reset the Drive Gauge. Leave the world and come back to refill it, then repeat.

Two extra tips from the same source: using an Ether right before a Limit can sometimes leave you with a refilled MP bar after the Limit ends, and Limit Form’s HP Gain ability heals Sora with every Limit hit, so you rarely need to stop for Cure. That matters, because Limit Form cannot cast magic at all.

The Best Places to Train

The community wiki names three spots that work well:

  • Mushroom No. 5 in Agrabah. This optional Final Mix encounter sits near a Save Point. The wiki notes you can fire off Sonic Rave without locking onto anything here, so the form timer does not drain from hits while you rack up finishers.
  • Ruin and Creation’s Passage in The World That Never Was. It is full of Nobodies and right next to the Altar of Naught, where you can revert and refill your Drive Gauge quickly.
  • The Battle of the 1000 Heartless in Hollow Bastion, a one-time story fight. The sheer number of Heartless refills your MP and Drive Gauge fast, which lets you chain a huge number of Limits in one fight.

A word of caution from the wiki: against Assassin Nobodies, getting hit by their self-destruct attack in the middle of Strike Raid can cause a glitch that removes your Keyblade’s hitbox. Doing another Strike Raid or reverting fixes it.

What Each Level Unlocks

Limit Form tops out at level 7. Per the community wiki, the total experience needed for each level is:

Level Total finishers needed
2 3
3 9
4 21
5 40
6 63
7 90

The rewards are abilities for Sora’s normal form, plus upgrades to Dodge Roll:

  • Level 2: Auto Limit
  • Level 4: Draw
  • Level 6: Lucky Lucky
  • Levels 3, 5 and 7: Dodge Roll improves for Limit Form, and leveling the form upgrades Dodge Roll for Sora’s normal form too

Because every finisher counts, a good share of those 90 comes naturally if you lean on Limit Form in hard fights rather than saving it.
