Marvel Rivals: How the Infinity War Mode Works

Path to Doomsday – Avengers: Infinity War is a 2v2 mode in Marvel Rivals where 12 players form six duos, fight short head-to-head rounds in Wakanda, and take Infinity Stones from the teams they knock out. The first duo to collect all six Stones wins, and the mode is playable until December 11, 2026, at 4 AM Eastern (09:00 UTC).

It is a very different game from Quick Match: no payload, no six-stacks, and a draft of upgrade cards between every round. Below is how a match flows, what the Stones do, how the drafting works, and how to earn the free Infinity Gauntlet accessory that comes with the mode.

The Basics

NetEase added the mode with Season 10.5 on October 9, 2026, and its patch notes describe it in one line: “12 players will form 6 duo squads and battle for control over the Infinity Stones.” The rest of what we know comes from GuangGuang’s Dev Vision Vol. 22 video, NetEase’s official season preview.

Format 2v2, six duos per match, 12 players
Hero pool 13 heroes who appear in the film
Arena Wakanda
Win condition First duo to hold all six Infinity Stones
Available October 9 to December 11, 2026 (ends 4 AM ET)

The Dev Vision video calls it “a fast-paced two versus two PvP mode built around short rounds, random drafting, and intense duo matchups.” It sits under Path to Doomsday, NetEase’s series of MCU-themed modes, after the summer’s Avengers: Age of Ultron mode.

How Rounds and Squad Health Work

A match runs as a round-robin. In each round, your duo faces one other duo in a 2v2 deathmatch, and the round-robin format rotates which duo you meet next.

Losing a round does not knock you out on its own. Per the Dev Vision video, “lose a round and your team loses health,” and “once your team’s health hits zero, you are knocked out of play.” That shared squad health is the real resource in this mode: a duo that wins most of its early rounds can afford a bad one later, while a duo that drops several in a row can be knocked out quickly.

Knocking a team out is also how the Stones move. “If you eliminate another team, you can grab Infinity Stones for yourself,” GuangGuang says, which is how a duo builds toward all six.

How the Infinity Stones Work

At the start of each match, every duo is randomly assigned one Infinity Stone. You cannot pick which one you get. Each Stone “grants a uniquely powerful ability,” and NetEase’s pitch is that “using it at just the right moment can completely flip the course of a battle.”

That gives each Stone two jobs:

  • A power to use. Your Stone’s ability is a trump card for the round you would otherwise lose. Read its in-game description at the start of the match, because NetEase has not published the individual Stone effects in its notes.
  • A score to chase. Holding Stones is the win condition. The more teams you eliminate, the more Stones you carry, and the more the remaining duos have reason to come after you.

Card Drafting Between Rounds

Between rounds, you and your partner draft cards from a random pool. The cards “upgrade your abilities and boost your stats,” and the Dev Vision video says they let you “craft some absolutely wild and fun builds for your hero” and “strategically counter build against your opponents.”

Because the pool is random, no two matches play out the same way. A few habits help:

  • Draft for your partner as well as yourself. In a 2v2, a card that keeps your partner alive is often worth more than a little more damage.
  • Look at who you face next. Counter-building is part of the design, so a card that blunts the next duo’s best hero can be the right pick even if it is not the strongest one on offer.
  • Do not lock in a plan. NetEase stresses adapting your build on the fly to whatever cards come up, so stay flexible when the draft does not offer your favorite upgrade.

How to Get the Free Infinity Gauntlet

The Infinity Gauntlet accessory is the mode’s headline reward, and its listing caused some confusion. NetEase’s patch notes first put it under “New In Store.” Late on October 7 (Eastern), the official Marvel Rivals account posted a correction on X: “The Infinity Gauntlet accessory will not be sold in the store. Simply achieve mission objectives in the Path to Doomsday – Avengers: Infinity War event to claim it for FREE.” The same post says the mode’s missions also pay “assorted rewards, such as Unstable Molecules and Units.”

NetEase has not listed the missions in its notes. Early player reports quote the Gauntlet’s mission as “Take 10 stones from other teams” in this mode. If that wording is right, Stones your duo starts with do not count, and since a match holds six Stones and one is already yours, you can take at most five from opponents in a single match. Plan on at least two strong matches.

Reports also list the 13 heroes who can wear the accessory: Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Scarlet Witch, Winter Soldier, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Mantis and Black Widow. The mission has to be finished before the mode closes on December 11 at 4 AM Eastern.

The Units and Unstable Molecules from the mode’s missions add up alongside the other free sources in our guide to getting Units without paying.

What Comes Next: Avengers: Endgame

Infinity War is the first of two Path to Doomsday modes in Season 10.5. The Dev Vision video says that on October 22, Path to Doomsday – Avengers: Endgame arrives as “a massive PvE mode” in which “50 players will assemble in the ruins of the Avengers compound to face down Thanos and his army.” The Infinity War mode keeps running after that.

One platform note: NetEase’s notes for the Age of Ultron mode in July said it was “currently not available on PS4.” The Season 10.5 notes carry no such line for Infinity War. NetEase has not said yet whether Endgame, a PvE mode like Age of Ultron, will run on PS4.

If you have not grabbed the season’s free costume yet, our guide to getting the free Thor Avengers costume covers the Infinity Finale event and the Times Square photo op that pays 100 Units until October 22. Everything else is on our Marvel Rivals hub.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many players are in an Infinity War match? Twelve, split into six duos. Each round pits your duo against one other duo in a 2v2 deathmatch.

Can you choose your Infinity Stone? No. Every duo is randomly assigned one Stone at the start of the match, and you collect more by eliminating other teams.

How do you win the Infinity War mode? Be the first duo to collect all six Infinity Stones. Losing rounds drains your squad’s health, and a duo whose health hits zero is knocked out.

Is the Infinity Gauntlet accessory free? Yes. NetEase’s official X account confirmed it is not sold in the store and is claimed free by completing mission objectives in the Infinity War event.

When does the Infinity War mode end? On December 11, 2026, at 09:00 UTC, which is 4 AM Eastern.

Which heroes can you play in Infinity War? NetEase says the pool is 13 heroes who appear in the film. The hero select screen in the mode shows exactly which ones.
