Change difficulty in Marvel’s Wolverine at any time from the pause menu: Settings, then Gameplay, then Challenge Level. There is no penalty for switching mid-game, and no trophy requires a specific difficulty, so the Platinum is available on any setting.
The Five Levels, Easiest to Hardest
- The Man – minimal combat challenge. You cannot be knocked out.
- The Hunter – for players here mainly for the story.
- The Mutant – the balanced default, and the recommended starting point.
- The Weapon – for players who want combat to bite.
- The Best There Is – expert tier, brutally difficult.
One warning worth stating plainly: “The Best There Is” is the hardest setting, not the easiest. Several sites have this backwards, presumably because the name reads like a beginner-friendly boast rather than a challenge. It is Wolverine’s catchphrase, and here it is the expert mode.
Difficulty affects enemy aggressiveness, damage, and health.
The Custom Sliders
This is the part most players never open. Beyond the five presets, three values can be set independently:
- Enemy Health
- Enemy Damage
- Enemy Stealth Awareness
That last one is genuinely useful. The stealth sections are the most divisive part of the game, and lowering stealth awareness on its own lets you keep combat difficulty high while making stealth less punishing. If a specific type of encounter is the problem rather than the game as a whole, tune the slider instead of dropping the preset.
You are offered these settings before the game starts, on first launch, and they remain adjustable throughout.
Which Should You Pick?
The Mutant is the intended experience and where the combat systems read best, because Rage generation and the Last Stand self-revive matter without being mandatory.
If you want the parry-heavy combat to actually test you, The Weapon is the step up that keeps fights fair. The Best There Is is worth saving for a second run, ideally in New Game Plus, which our New Game Plus guide covers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I change difficulty mid-game?
Yes, at any time, with no penalty. Pause, then Settings, Gameplay, Challenge Level.
Which is the hardest difficulty?
The Best There Is. Despite the name, it is the expert setting, not the easy one.
Are any trophies locked to a difficulty?
No. The Platinum can be earned on any setting.
Can I make only stealth easier?
Yes. Enemy Stealth Awareness is a separate slider from Enemy Health and Enemy Damage.
