Combat in Marvel’s Wolverine is parry-centric, not dodge-centric, and there is no stamina meter to ration. The game wants you meeting attacks head-on with the claws rather than rolling away from them, and it rewards that with bonus damage and Rage.

The Instinct to Unlearn
If you have come from games built on dodge-and-punish, the temptation is to treat Circle as the answer to everything. It is not. Timed parries on L1 grant bonus damage and keep you in the enemy’s face, which is where Rage is generated.
The exception is colour-coded unblockable attacks, marked in red. Those must be dodged, and trying to parry them will just hurt.
Logan also has leap and lunge traversal in combat, launching himself across a room at an enemy to close a gap and stun them. Retreating to recover is generally worse than lunging back in, because in-combat healing is throttled while Rage is not.
Rage Changes Everything
The Rage meter has three tiers and is the core system:
- Tier 1 builds your base Rage and opens up gap-closing options.
- Tier 2 increases combo and special move damage and, crucially, unlocks Last Stand, the self-revive.
- Tier 3 is Berserker Rage: maximum damage, critical strikes, instant executions, and a narrowed, primal presentation. Holding it requires staying in combat.
Our Rage and Berserk guide goes deeper on that progression.
Other Systems Worth Knowing
Finishers are brutal takedown animations that sever limbs. Dismemberment is toggleable in settings if that is not for you, as our settings guide covers.
Special Techniques are unlocked through the Technique tree, equipped to four slots, and used on Hold L2 with cooldowns. Our upgrades guide covers earning them.
Enhanced Senses is Logan’s scent tracking, used to find objectives, enemies and collectibles, and it underpins the game’s stealth takedowns.
Ally Assist on R1 calls in a team attack when you are fighting alongside someone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a stamina meter?
No. You can attack, dodge and parry freely without managing stamina.
Should I dodge or parry?
Parry by default. Only red, unblockable attacks require a dodge.
What does the Rage meter do?
It raises damage across three tiers, unlocks the Last Stand self-revive at Tier 2, and enables Berserker Rage at Tier 3.
Can I turn off the dismemberment?
Yes. It is a toggle in the settings, along with separate options for blood and visceral damage.
