The Persona 4 series has sold more than 5.7 million copies and the Persona 3 series more than 5 million, according to a Persona 30th anniversary feature Sega Sammy published on its Japanese investor site around September 28, 2026. The same page puts the Persona 5 series past 13 million.
The Details
The feature, part one of Sega Sammy’s “SEGASAMMANIA #002”, looks back on Atlus’s series, which turned 30 on September 20. The figures it gives:
- Persona series total: more than 30 million worldwide, as of June 2026, across five numbered games.
- Persona 5 series: more than 13 million.
- Persona 4 series: more than 5.7 million.
- Persona 3 series: more than 5 million.
The Persona 4 figure counts the whole series, not just the RPG. Sega credits spin-offs made with partner studios, including Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4: Dancing All Night, with helping it grow. For Persona 3, it points to the move to vocal soundtracks and a more stylish look as the turning point that brought in new fans.
Sega also says series sales roughly doubled between 2020 and 2024, after a global push that brought older games to more platforms, including PC, and launched Persona 5 Royal in 15 languages at once. By region, North America accounts for about 40% of sales, and Japan, Europe and Asia about 20% each, so around 80% now comes from outside Japan.
What This Means for Players
The 30 million total was already known. The new numbers are the per-era splits, and they show Persona 4 as the stronger of the two older eras, which is useful context for Persona 4 Revival, the full remake of Persona 4 Golden. Sega’s page lists it for February 2027, and also notes that Persona 6 was announced in June.
The regional split matters too. With North America now the single biggest market, Atlus’s recent habit of launching in many languages at once makes sense.
