Blogging in The Sims 3: University Life is a fun and rewarding part of the Social Networking skill. As your Sim gains followers, they’ll unlock new blog types, influence town events, and even make money through donations or blog sales. Whether your Sim wants to go viral or just document their life, here’s everything you need to know to start and grow a blog.
How to Start a Blog in The Sims 3
To start blogging, your Sim must first gain access to the Blog App on their smartphone.
- Use your Sim’s phone to browse the web, stream videos, or send texts. These interactions begin raising the Social Networking skill.
- Once your Sim reaches level 1 in Social Networking, the Blog App will become available on their smartphone.
- Click the phone, open the Blog App, and choose Create New Blog. You’ll be prompted to name your blog and select a theme (initially, only the Personal Blog is available).
Blog Themes and Unlock Levels
As your Sim increases their Social Networking skill, they’ll unlock more blog types:
- Level 1: Personal Blog
- Level 3: Review Blog
- Level 5: News Blog
Changing your blog type after it’s created will result in a 30% follower loss, so choose wisely.
How to Gain Blog Followers
The more followers your Sim has, the more successful and influential their blog becomes.
- Post consistently using the Blog App, but avoid overposting. Posting too often may give your Sim the “Blogged Out” moodlet, which reduces engagement.
- Take advantage of the “Gotta Blog About This” moodlet, which appears after certain events like promotions, romantic moments, or major life changes. Posts made during this time gain 15–40 followers.
- Add photos to blog posts to increase likes and engagement.
- Use traits like Charismatic, Friendly, or Computer Whiz to boost follower gain.
- Leveling up the Writing skill helps create higher-quality blog content.
Blog Ratings and Perks
As your blog gains followers, it levels up and unlocks new perks:
- 1 Star (50 followers): Can ask for donations
- 2 Stars (300 followers): Bigger donation amounts, improved career opportunities
- 3 Stars (750 followers): Stronger influence over town events
- 4 Stars (1,250 followers): Opportunity to sell your blog for §2,000–§4,000
- 5 Stars (2,000+ followers): Maximum influence and best donation rewards
