Sims 3: How to Get Married

Getting married in The Sims 3 is a multi-step process that involves building a strong romantic relationship, proposing, and then choosing how to celebrate the union. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help your Sims tie the knot.

1. Build a Romantic Relationship

Before marriage, your Sims need to develop a romantic connection. Engage in romantic interactions such as “Flirt,” “Compliment Appearance,” and “Hold Hands.” As the relationship progresses, the Sims will move from acquaintances to romantic interests.

To advance further, continue with romantic actions until the “Propose Going Steady” option becomes available. Selecting this will make the Sims a couple, setting the stage for an engagement.

2. Propose Marriage in The Sims 3

Once your Sims are in a steady relationship, deepen their romantic interactions to reach the “Extremely Irresistible” mood. At this point, the “Propose Marriage” option will appear under the romantic interactions. A successful proposal will change their status to engaged.

3. Choose the Wedding Type

After the engagement, you have two options for the wedding ceremony:

  • Private Wedding: This is a quick and simple option. Select “Have Private Wedding” under the romantic interactions to elope, and the Sims will marry immediately without any guests.
  • Wedding Party: For a more elaborate celebration, use the phone to “Throw Party” and select “Wedding Party.” You can set the time, dress code, and guest list. During the party, have the engaged Sim initiate the “Get Married” interaction with their fiancé(e). Guests will gather to witness the ceremony, and the couple will exchange vows.

4. Post-Wedding Considerations

After the ceremony:

  • Name Change: By default, the Sim who proposed will retain their last name, and the other Sim will adopt it.
  • Moving In: If the Sims were living separately, you’ll be prompted to merge households.
  • Moodlets: Both Sims will receive a positive “Just Married” moodlet, enhancing their happiness for a few days.

By following these steps, your Sims can enjoy a successful and memorable wedding in The Sims 3. For more guides, check out How To Video Game!
