The World Pets update for Fallout 76 arrives on December 1, Bethesda Softworks announced on October 22, 2026 in its World Pets Overview trailer, its video for Day 4 of Fallout Day Celebrations 2026. Bethesda posted the same date in a Steam post for Fallout 76. Bethesda had previously said only that it would arrive in December.
The Details
Bethesda’s description of the update is short but specific:
- Choose and personalize: you pick a pet, give it a name and customize its appearance.
- The roster: “faithful Dogs and Cats,” “fearsome Radhogs” and “even a mighty Deathclaw” are named in the trailer.
- Commands: you direct your companion with attack, defend and follow commands.
- Progression: pets level up into “a powerful ally” and unlock “unique perks that complement your playstyle.”
The update was first laid out in Bethesda’s September 2026 Letter from the Directors, in which Creative Director Jon Rush and Production Director Bill LaCoste said World Pets turns every C.A.M.P. Pet into a companion. That letter says the interactions C.A.M.P. Pets already have carry over, with new Stay, Follow, Protect and Kill commands, and that pets become more capable the more you adventure with them.
Neither the trailer nor the Steam post gives a price or says whether new pet types come from the Atomic Shop.
What This Means for Players
Your existing C.A.M.P. Pets come along. Per the directors’ letter, World Pets turns all C.A.M.P. Pets into companions, so the pets already living at your camp are the ones that can follow you out of it.
Solo players gain the most. A companion that attacks and defends on command adds help in every fight, which matters most for players who roam Appalachia alone.
