Kuro Games is replacing the Steam download of Wuthering Waves with its own Official Launcher during the Version 3.8 update maintenance, the studio announced on Steam on November 4. Steam players will need to uninstall the current game package completely, then reinstall through Steam once the maintenance begins. Kuro says account data and progress are not affected.
What Steam Players Need to Do
Kuro’s notice sets out three steps:
- Uninstall the old version completely. Remove the existing Wuthering Waves game package from your Steam library.
- Reinstall once Version 3.8 maintenance starts. Downloading the game through Steam from then on installs the Official Launcher.
- Choose a resource tier in the launcher, then download the game files from there.
If you hit login failures, payment errors or missing map assets after the switch, Kuro’s first fix is to check that the old game package was fully uninstalled. Anything else goes through the in-game feedback feature. The studio’s details page on the official site covers the same changes.
What the Launcher Adds
Kuro gives two reasons for the move:
- Tiered Client Resource Downloads. The launcher lets you pick UHD, HD or SD resources, so you can save storage space by not downloading the highest tier.
- Pre-downloads. Future versions can be downloaded ahead of their maintenance through the launcher, starting with the pre-download for Version 4.0.
The notice does not give a date for the Version 3.8 maintenance itself, so watch Kuro’s official channels for that announcement.
What This Means for Players
The work here falls on Steam players. Uninstalling removes the game files, so the reinstall is a fresh download through the launcher; if your connection is slow, plan for that around the maintenance window rather than right before you want to play. Kuro ties the most likely errors (login, payment and missing map assets) to a leftover old package, so a clean uninstall is the step not to skip.
If storage is tight, the tier choice is the useful part of the change: picking HD or SD keeps the install smaller than the full UHD resources. Pre-downloads also mean Steam players can get Version 4.0 onto their drive before its maintenance instead of waiting for it to end.
